Thistledown Racino Picks – Tuesday, October 6, 2020

Thistledown Racino’s racing fare brings us six claiming matches and two maiden races for a Tuesday schedule of eight thoroughbred races.

This is a maiden special weight race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of one mile for a purse of $20,000.

In a very unimpressive field, I like the second-favored (3/1) entry—Kendalin, with Luan Machado in the irons. Yes, Machado is not the most experienced jockey in this race, but the better jockeys are all aboard singularly poor competitors. For the record, Kendalin—a three-year-old filly, moneyed two of her four career starts, making her statistically the leader in this field.

The favorite, on the other hand, moneyed once in eight starts, and even given the benefit of a winning jockey like Ricardo Feliciano, must still overcome the potential disadvantage of breaking from the pole.

The longest odds in this race are 10/1, and that is not going to have a happy ending, so save your long money for later.

This is an allowance race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $21,500.

I’m sticking with the 5/2 morning line favorite here—Uyeda, with veteran jockey Erik Barbaran aboard. This three-year-old gelding moneyed three of his seven career starts, breaking his maiden in March 2020 (his first official start). For comparison, the second-favored Togie has a slightly better record (on paper) but his single win was back in April 2019.

Again, the longest odds in this race are 10/1, and that horse hasn’t moneyed in 2020, so it’s not a huge leap to guess he won’t be improving his record in this race.

This is a maiden special weight race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $20,000.

My bet is on the 5/2 favorite in this race, as well—Obiwan, ridden by Ricardo Feliciano. This three-year-old gelding finished in the money eight of his 15 career starts, all but one of those money finishes in 2020.

There are no long odds contenders in this race, so we save money once again.
