Thistledown Racino Picks – Tuesday, October 20, 2020

| October 19, 2020 2:45 pm PDT

The eight-race card at Thistledown Racino today boasts mostly claiming races with a single straight allowance match for spice.

Remember that Thistledown permits spectators, but if you can’t attend, you can still participate in the wagering with a visit to one of our recommended online racebooks.

Read on for my Thistledown Racino picks and betting tips for today’s three richest races.

Picks for Thistledown Racino Race 4

This is a claiming race for Ohio-foaled three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $14,200.

I’m going with the second-favored (7/2) entry here—Ohio Munny, with T. D. Houghton in the irons. This three-year-old gelding moneyed three of his seven career starts, winning one.

The longest I would go for a value show bet is on the 10/1 Master Volume, ridden by veteran jockey John McKee. This three-year-old gelding moneyed three of his seven career starts, winning one of them. If the odds were a little longer, I’d recommend this entry for an across-the-board, but I’m just going with the bargain show ticket.

  • Win: Ohio Munny 7/2
  • Show: Master Volume 10/1

Picks for Thistledown Racino Race 5

This is an allowance race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $21,500.

I’m going with the third-favored (7/2) entry here—It’s Official, ridden by Christian Pilares. This five-year-old gelding finished in the money eight of his 11 career starts, winning three of them. He’ll see plenty of competition in this field, however.

Even though the payout wouldn’t be much (but still in the profit zone), I like the 6/1 underdog for an across-the-board bet—Khalfani, with Yarmarie Correa aboard. This four-year-old gelding moneyed six of his eight starts, winning three, plus he has the added advantage of Correa’s five-pound apprentice allowance. Correa is having such a great first year that I’m surprised they haven’t started requiring her mounts to carry extra weight to, you know, be fair to the other competitors.

  • Win: It’s Official 7/2
  • Across the Board: Khalfani 6/1

Pick for Thistledown Racino Race 7

This is an allowance optional claiming race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $24,300.

I’m sticking with the 8/5 morning line favorite in this race—Richiesinthehouse, with Ricardo Feliciano in the irons. This six-year-old gelding finished in the money 17 of his 23 career starts, winning 14 of them.

Longest odds in this race are 8/1, and I don’t see that happening, not even for a show ticket.

  • Win: Richiesinthehouse 8/5
