Thistledown Racino Picks – Wednesday, October 14, 2020

| October 13, 2020 3:46 pm PDT

Thistledown brings us eight allowance and claiming races today, with some larger-than-usual purses.

Remember that Thistledown permits spectators, so if you’re in the area it’s a great opportunity to experience an actual day at the races. If you attend, you can expect highs in the mid-60s, partly cloudy skies but little chance of rain, and winds around 14 mph.

Read on for my Thistledown Racino picks and tips for today’s richest races.

Pick for Thistledown Racino Race 2

This is an allowance race for Ohio-foaled fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $29,300.

I’m sticking with the 5/2 morning line favorite here—Cristalinda, with Luis Raul Rivera in the irons. This three-year-old filly moneyed ten of her 14 career starts, winning one. While the M/L odds suggest this will be a tight race, I think Cristalinda will win decisively.

The longest odds in this six-horse race are 8/1, so there is no value show wager to be made.

  • Win: Cristalinda 5/2

Pick for Thistledown Racino Race 6

This is an allowance race for Ohio-foaled three-year-olds and upward running a distance of one mile for a purse of $29,300.

I like the second half of the 1/1A coupled entries for the win here—Tapaway (3/1 M/L), with Christian Pilares aboard. This three-year-old gelding finished in the money seven of his 14 career starts, winning one—which gives him the statistical advantage in this eight-horse field.

The longest odds in this race are 10/1, and that entry is not worth the risk of a show bet.

  • Win: Tapaway 3/1

Picks for Thistledown Racino Race 7

This is an allowance race for Ohio-foaled fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $29,300.

I like the second-favored (4/1) entry in this race—Biscayne Bay, piloted by Erik Barbaran. This three-year-old filly moneyed five of her seven career starts, winning one.

While I see no long-odds entries worth a value show wager, I do see a potential trifecta here, consisting of Biscayne Bay, Pricey Appeal (ridden by T. D. Houghton), and Persevering Honor (with Ricardo Feliciano aboard).

Pricey Appeal, a four-year-old filly, is the third-favored M/L choice, and she moneyed both of her career starts. The four-year-old Persevering Honor moneyed nine of her 14 starts, with one win.

  • Win: Biscayne Bay 4/1
  • Trifecta: Biscayne Bay, Pricey Appeal, Persevering Honor (4-1-9)

Hard to beat that trifecta, but I did find other wagering opportunities at the other two tracks I reviewed today:
