Thistledown Racino Picks – Thursday, August 20, 2020

| August 20, 2020 2:53 am PDT

Thistledown Racino continues Thursday August 20, 2020 with eight maiden, allowance, and claiming matches.

The weather forecast for Monday in North Randall, Ohio calls for partly cloudy skies and a 20% chance of rain, highs in the mid-70s, and winds around nine mph.

I cover the three richest races here, but you can always find the full slate of Thistledown Racino matches—including entries, jockeys, and wagering options—at any of the best horse racing betting sites.

Now, let’s move on Thursday’s horse racing tips and picks for Thistledown Racino. Post time for the first race is 12:50 PM (EDT).

Pick for Thistledown Racino Race 4

This is an allowance race for Ohio-foaled fillies and mares three years old and upward running 1-1/16 miles for a purse of $31,700.

I’m sticking with the 5/2 morning line favorite in this race: Penny Shots, with Christian Pilares aboard. This three-year-old filly moneyed all three of her career starts, and won two of them.

The longest odds in this race are 8/1 and considering the records of those with hooves on the ground and boots in the irons, those 8/1 odds aren’t long enough for even a show ticket.

  • Win: Penny Shots 5/2

Pick for Thistledown Racino Race 5

This is an allowance race for three-year-olds and upward running 1-1/16 miles for a purse of $23,000.

I’m taking the morning line’s advice and betting on the 5/2 favorite in this race: Urbanite, with Ricardo Feliciano in the irons. This three-year-old colt finished in the money four of his eight career starts, winning two of them.

No long-odds entries in this race, so we save money. Yay, us.

  • Win: Urbanite 5/2

Picks for Thistledown Racino Race 7

This is an allowance race for three-year-olds running six furlongs for a purse of $21,500.

While this could be a very tight race, I’m going to back the second-favored (7/2) entry: Uyeda, with Erik Barbaran in the irons. This three-year-old gelding finished in the money two of his five career starts—good stats in a field where every horse has a single win.

At 12/1, Gatto Rosso, with Christian Pilares aboard, is slightly undervalued, and worth a show ticket. This four-year-old colt moneyed nine of his 21 career starts.

  • Win: Uyeda 7/2
  • Show: Gatto Rosso 12/1
