The Red Raiders and the Cowboys will end their regular season against each other; this is the first of two games to come. They are closely matched, with both teams winning 14 games each, with the only difference being the Cowboys have lost an extra game. Therefore, there will be plenty on the line tonight, even more so for the Cowboys as if they fail to win this one; they stand no chance of coming above the Red Raiders.

They last met at the beginning of the year, and nothing could separate them in regular time that day. They have played out two regular time draws in their previous four matchups showing how close things are between them. Over their last ten head-to-head games, they have each won five games each.

Red Raiders vs. Cowboys Odds

Red Raiders (-2.5) -110
Cowboys (+2.5) -110
Red Raiders To Win -155
Cowboys To Win +140
Over 138 Points -110
Under 138 Points -110

As you would expect, the betting reflects how closely matched these teams are this season. The points total looks perhaps one or two points low and could therefore offer some value.

Red Raiders News

Texas Tech has lost back-to-back games for the second time this season. However, they have never lost three in a row, something they will be looking to avoid tonight.

They have a decent record on the road and have won five of their eight away fixtures this season. However, two of their three defeats have come in their last four away games, which is a slight concern for them.

Here are the latest betting trends for Texas Tech:

  • They have only won one of their previous seven games against the spread.
  • Eight of their previous 12 matches have gone over the betting total.
  • The Red Raiders have won two-thirds of their last 18 games.
  • Texas Tech is 2-7 against the spread in their previous nine matches against Oklahoma State.
  • They have won five of their last seven games.
  • The Red Raiders have only won on two of their previous 17 visits to Oklahoma State.
  • They have lost their last six games against the spread when playing against teams in the Big 12.
  • Seven of their previous ten games played in February have gone over the points total.

Texas Tech has a decent offense that averages 73 points per game this season. Their Achilles heel has been their poor shooting, making only 43% of their field goals. With such poor shooting ability this season, it is no wonder that they haven’t attempted many three-pointers and have averaged the least amount per game in the Conference.

The Red Raider’s main strength has been driving to the basket, drawing many fouls along the way. They are, in fact, the most fouled team in the Big 12 this season. However, because they play this style of basketball, it does mean that they don’t make many assists. The flip side of that is they don’t turn the ball over often either.

Their defense has been brilliant, and they have only conceded 62 points per game on average, making them one of the top 25 defenses in the country. They sit extremely deep and soak up the pressure of their opponents. However, this has left them open against teams that shoot well from range in the past.

Sophomore Kevin McCullar has been at the center of their defense this season, and he leads the team in rebounds and steals.

They are blocking the ball well, which the Cowboys are also very good at, so this could be a vital area of the game.

The Red Raiders are occasionally a little over-aggressive in their approach, and this is something that they will need to keep an eye on tonight.

Because of this solid defense, they have a point per game difference of 10.7, which is the second-best in the Conference this season.

They haven’t defended as well on the road, and they have conceded on average seven more points per game.

Junior Mac McClung leads all of the scoring stats for the team, and he has steadily made significant headway over the past three seasons as he has increased nearly all of his stats year upon year.

The Red Raiders have no reported injuries for the game.

Cowboys News

Since winning their opening six games of the season, the Cowboys have struggled for consistency. Since that win streak, they have failed to win three games in a row, which is something they will be looking to do by winning this match. They come into this one, having won four of their previous six games, but their only notable win came against Arkansas.

They have a good record at home, having only lost three of their 11 home fixtures all season. Oklahoma State has won their last four home games in a row, and the last team to defeat them at home was the team with the only perfect record in the Conference, Baylor.

Here are the latest betting trends for Oklahoma State:

  • Six of their previous seven matches against Texas Tech have gone over the betting total.
  • Only two of their last six games against teams in the Big 12 have failed to go under the points total.
  • They have only won one of their previous six games played on a Monday.
  • Oklahoma State is 6-3 in their last nine games that they have entered as the underdog.

The Cowboys have a good offense that rebounds the ball very well in attack. However, their defense is poor and doesn’t rebound the ball well at all. That’s probably because they play an extremely tight marking game, focusing on stopping their opponents from getting shots off. This does help them strip the ball away from their opposition and make many steals.

Much like their opponents tonight, they don’t tend to take many shots from three-point range, so don’t expect to see many made tonight. Another close comparison is they too like to dribble their way to the basket, and they also are often fouled along the way resulting in a high number of free-throws made this season. However, they do mix things up a little more than Texas Tech, and they try to make more passes so that they don’t become too predictable.

But that hasn’t worked for them as their passing has been dreadful, which has resulted in them making the most turnovers in the Conference.

They are more accurate shooters than the Red Raiders, though, so if they can see enough of the ball, they could cause them some problems.

Cade Cunningham has shown that he can do it all this season, but can he make the step up and do it in the NBA? The way he is going, he is undoubtedly on track to make an impression.

The Cowboys will miss Williams, who is out for the season, but is likely to return following a foot injury.

Red Raiders vs. Cowboys Betting Pick

  • Red Raiders To Win

This is a challenging game to call as I believe the Red Raiders are a better team, but the Cowboys are in better form. Although the Cowboys beat the Red Raiders last month, Texas Tech started far too slowly in that game, and I don’t think they will make the same mistake tonight. They fought back brilliantly in the second half, but they used all of their energy trying to get back into the game that they had very little left in the tank in overtime.

I will therefore take the Red Raiders to win a close encounter tonight.
