Unfortunately for him, Australia failed to make the home fans happy and was knocked out early. De Minaur lost both of his matches in the tournament and will be eager to bounce back during the Australian Open.

He is the more talented player in round one, there’s no doubt about that, but Sandgren is a grinder that won’t go down easily. De Minaur will have to stay consistent to win the opener and I don’t think he can do that in straight sets.

I expect to see a win for Alex de Minaur simply because he’s the better player, but it won’t be easy. Sandgren is a tough opponent for this stage and he loves playing in Melbourne.
