Team Liquid vs. G2 Esports Betting Preview – LoL Worlds, Thursday, October 8, 2020

| October 6, 2020 12:04 pm PDT

We’re halfway through the group stages of the LoL Worlds Main Event 2020, and the competition has been great. We saw many close matches and plenty of teams still have a realistic chance of progressing to the knockouts.

Group A has been one of the closest, and every single squad there already tasted defeat at least once. Even G2 Esports were beaten unexpectedly by Team Liquid. The favorite will have the chance to rest and regroup on Wednesday, before returning to face the same opponent on Thursday.

I share my thoughts on the second clash between the two sides in this Team Liquid vs. G2 Esports betting preview. The post includes the latest odds, my prediction, and a free betting pick.

Team Liquid vs. G2 Esports Odds

  • Team Liquid to win; +240
  • G2 Esports to win; -334
  • Team Liquid (+7.5); -120
  • G2 Esports (-7.5); -120

The Team Liquid vs. G2 Esports odds of the leading betting sites suggests that the European squad should be able to bounce back rather comfortably on Thursday. I certainly understand where this is coming from, as you can see in my analysis below.

Team Liquid Form

The first two games for Team Liquid were tough, and it looked like the North American squad might be going home early. That’s when the victory over G2 Esports on Tuesday brought some hope that Liquid could actually find a spot in the playoffs.

Jensen completely dominated the game, and Broxan finally showed some aggression, stealing plenty of camps in the enemy jungle to slow the opposition down. It worked like a charm, and Liquid was able to build a solid lead mid-game, which was enough to close the clash later on.

I believe that the draft was part of the reason why the North American squad won because G2 tried a rather experimental lineup. I’m not sure that the opponent will make the same mistake on Thursday, so game two should be completely different.

G2 Esports Team Analysis

We all thought that G2 Esports is the big favorite in Group A of the Worlds, and the first two games confirmed that. The European squad beat Suning and Machi Esports to claim the top spot early on, and another victory against Liquid would’ve been a huge step towards the knockouts.

I believe that G2 either got somewhat arrogant or decided to try something new. The side picked an early game composition that was supposed to build a lead before the 15th-minute mark and snowball from there.

The execution was far from perfect, though, and G2 paid the price. I expect a more traditional approach to the second clash on Thursday.

My Prediction and Betting Pick

The favorite underestimated Team Liquid on Tuesday and suffered a surprising defeat. I expect a much stronger performance and a win for G2 Esports next time. In fact, the team’s pride is likely hurt, so the guys will be motivated to crush the opposition, which is why I like the handicap option.

  • G2 Esports (-7.5)
