Do the Tampa Bay Rays have a response after being blown out in Game 1 of the World Series? That will be the question on Wednesday night after the Los Angeles Dodgers dominated the opening contest, 8-3.

Los Angeles broke open a 2-1 ballgame with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and two more in the bottom of the sixth. Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger both homered for Los Angeles and starter Clayton Kershaw rebounded from his tough NLCS start, allowing one run in six innings to earn the victory.

The Rays offense looked flustered all night long, recording just six hits and a walk while striking out 10 times. That was the fifth straight game and the ninth out of the last 10 that Tampa Bay has scored four runs or less.

Rays vs. Dodgers Odds for Game 2

BET ODDS
Rays +1.5 -158
Dodgers -1.5 +134
Rays to Win +135
Dodgers to Win -155
Over 8.0 -115
Under 8.0 -105

Once again, the oddsmakers have waited a bit longer to come out with the spread. They look for Los Angeles to win Game 2 with the moneyline coming in at -155.

The big number to watch in this contest is the total, set at 8.0 for the second straight game. Los Angeles matched that number on their own in the opening contest. With Los Angeles likely making this a bullpen day and the Rays starting Blake Snell, the under looks like the smart wager.

Game 2 Preview

Blake Snell will get the start for Tampa Bay. The left-hander has been outstanding in the playoffs, posting a 2-2 record with a 3.20 ERA. Snell was solid against the Astros in the ALCS, allowing three runs on nine hits in nine innings in the series. He went 1-1. The lefty has allowed four homers in 19.2 innings but has a solid 1.19 ground out to fly out ratio in the post-season to go along with 19 Ks, so it will be interesting to see if Los Angeles will be able to take Snell deep.

How well Snell performs may be irrelevant if this Tampa Bay offense does not start producing. They added their 26th postseason homer but have now scored 60 runs, 4.0 per game. That is not going to get the job done against a very potent Dodgers lineup.

Los Angeles will send Tony Gonsolin to the hill. Gonsolin has appeared just two times in the playoffs, making his only start against Atlanta when he allowed five runs and 4.1 innings. He has allowed seven runs in 6.1 innings overall, but do not expect him to go more than one frame in this contest. With the Dodgers bullpen seeing limited action in Game 1 and with an off day on Thursday, do not be surprised if they make this a bullpen day.

The Dodgers bullpen continues to be a big reason why this team is where they are. They have a 5-1 record and a 3.53 ERA in the playoffs. The relievers have walked only 18 batters in 58.2 innings pitched.

Rays vs. Dodgers Pick

I figured that Los Angeles had the clear edge in Game 1 with Kershaw on the hill and he delivered. Now it is the bullpens turn to keep the Los Angeles momentum going as the Dodgers have now won four straight playoff games.

If Tampa Bay is going to have any chance to win the series, they must win Game 2 behind their ace. That is a tall order considering that this team simply cannot hit right now. Three runs would normally be a big number in a World Series game, but not against this potent Los Angeles lineup.

Everything says the Dodgers take a 2-0 series lead, but I do not see it that way. I think Tampa Bay is able to hold the Dodgers lineup down thanks to Snell. Take Tampa Bay to win, 4-3.
