After recording three consecutive victories, Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a heavy home defeat to the divisional rivals New Orleans Saints and drooped to a 6-3 record and 2nd place in the NFC South. It was Tampa’s second loss to the Saints this season, and now they will try to bounce back against the Panthers.

The Carolina Panthers were also on a three-game winning streak but lost the last four games, including the most recent one to the reigning champions Kansas City Chiefs on the road. All four defeats were by a one-possession margin, so the Panthers will try to return to the winning ways in a tough matchup with Tom Brady and the Bucs. Here is my Buccaneers vs. Panthers betting preview.

Bucs Destroyed by the Saints at Home

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers displayed the worst defensive and offensive performance of the season in a 38-3 home loss to the NFC South rivals New Orleans Saints. They were trailing 31-0 at halftime and failed to score a touchdown for the first time this year as the offense didn’t click. Tampa Bay totaled only 194 yards opposite New Orleans’ 420, while the Bucs had just 13 first downs and 20 minutes of ball possession, twice as fewer than the Saints.

Tom Brady had a disastrous game, his worst as a Buccaneer, as he completed 22 of 38 passes for 209 yards and even three interceptions. The running game was non-existing because Tampa trailed from the start and was forced to pass the ball, so the hosts collected miserable eight rushing yards on five attempts! Mike Evans caught four passes for 64 yards, while the debutant and NFL returnee, Antonio Brown, added 31 yards on three receptions. On the defensive end, Devin White dominated with 14 tackles (seven solos), while Shaquil Barrett had the only sack of the game for the Bucs.

The Buccaneers are the 9th team in the NFL when it comes to the offense with 27.8 points per game, 16th in passing yards (256.9), 30th in rushing yards (92.1), while they have the 9th defense that allows 22.6 points per contest.

Panthers Fell Short to the Chiefs on the Road

The Carolina Panthers performed bravely on the turf of the reigning champions Kansas City Chiefs but were left empty-handed in the end in a 33-31 loss. Carolina had a 14-3 lead at one point in the opening half and a 17-13 lead at the break, but the hosts switched to a higher gear since and managed to win. The Panthers totaled 435 yards opposite Kansas City’s 397, dominated the possession, and had six first downs more than the Chiefs, but they couldn’t stop Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Tyreek Hill.

Teddy Bridgewater completed 36 of 49 passes for 310 yards and a couple of touchdowns, while he also added one rushing TD. Christian McCaffrey, who returned to the field after missing more than a month due to an injury, was his usual self with 69 rushing yards and a score on 18 carries, and 82 receiving yards and a TD on ten catches. Curtis Samuel led the team in receiving with 105 yards and a touchdown on nine receptions. Sam Franklin and Shaq Thompson were solid on defense with seven tackles apiece.

The Panthers are the 23rd team in the NFL when it comes to the offense with 23.3 points per game, 11th in passing yards (259.3), 18th in rushing yards (109.9), while they have the 15th defense that allows 25.1 points per contest.

Buccaneers vs. Panthers Pick

The Buccaneers defeated the Panthers 31-17 in the opening game of the series, but I don’t think the visitors will have an easy job this time around. CMC, who scored a pair of touchdowns in that loss, is back for the hosts, and Carolina is a way stronger team with him in the backfield.

I am not saying the Panthers will get a win here, but I am backing them to put up a fight just like they did in Kansas and cause a lot of problems to Tom Brady and the Bucs. Expect a close encounter that could go either way.
