Sydney Sixers vs. Hobart Hurricanes – Big Bash League, Saturday, December 11, 2021

On Saturday, December 11, the Sydney Sixers and the Hobart Hurricanes will clash in the Big Bash League for the second time in four days.
The Sixers claimed a 14-run win over Hobart on Wednesday, with captain Moises Henriques firing his team to victory. Can the Hurricanes gain their revenge this weekend?
If you’re looking for a Sydney Sixers vs. Hobart Hurricanes prediction, you have come to the right place. Below, I discuss the odds, analyze the teams, and also share my betting pick for Saturday’s showdown.
Sydney Sixers vs. Hobart Hurricanes Odds
It is no surprise that all the top cricket betting sites view the Sixers as favorites to win the one.
Not only did they beat the Hurricanes by 14 runs on Wednesday, but they also notched a mammoth 152-run victory over the Melbourne Stars in their opening match of the season.
Still, it is worth noting that Hobart’s price isn’t much bigger than the Sixers’. Greg Shipperd’s side is favored to win, but the fine margins in T20 cricket give the Canes a realistic chance.
Will the Sixers Win Three on the Spin?
To say that the Sixers made light work of the Stars would be a massive understatement.
The reigning champions kicked off their title-defending campaign with a huge win over Team Green. After posting a team-record total of 213/4, they dismissed the Stars for just 61 after 11.1 overs.
Josh Philippe (83) and Moises Henriques (76*) scored the bulk of the runs last weekend, with James Vince (44) and Dan Christian (5) completing the rout.
On Wednesday, Henriques was the star of the show once again. The captain smashed 73 runs off 48 balls as the Men in Magenta beat Hobart by 14 runs.
- 76 runs off 38 balls vs. Melbourne Stars (8 fours, 3 sixes)
- 73 runs off 48 balls vs. Hobart Hurricanes (6 fours, 2 sixes)
Let’s not forget that the Sixers’ bowlers have been immense, too. Despite the big-hitting prowess of Henriques and co., the bowlers must be given credit for their recent efforts.
Steve O’Keefe has already taken five wickets this season, finishing with figures of 4-14 against the Stars. Both Hayden Kerr and Tom Curran have four wickets to their name after two impressive displays.
Sean Abbott also looks in good nick. The paceman – who could become the BBL’s all-time leading wicket-ticker this season – took 3-14 on the opening weekend.
You get the picture, right? The Sixers are seriously strong in every department.
Can the Canes Upset the BBL Odds?
While the Sixers have already played two matches this season, the Hurricanes have only had one outing. Unfortunately, their opening clash didn’t end positively.
Granted, the Tasmanians gave a good account of themselves against the reigning champs. Tom Rogers (3-28) and Nathan Ellis (2-34) helped to limit the Sixers to 144/9 – 69 runs less than their first match.
However, a disappointing batting collapse saw the Canes slip from 70/3 to 130/8. They eventually ran out of overs, falling 14 runs short of their target.
Adam Griffith’s men can take confidence from their previous performance. Although they fell short, they showed glimpses of promise throughout the match.
That said, Wednesday’s clash underlined the gulf quality between the Hurricanes and the Sixers. The three-time champions flexed their muscles and ended up cruising to victory.
Ultimately, there is a reason why Hobart is one of only two teams without a BBL title to their name.
Sydney Sixers vs. Hobart Hurricanes Prediction
I’m confident that Shipperd’s men will do the double over Hobart on Saturday. If Wednesday’s meeting is anything to go by, then the Sixers shouldn’t struggle to beat the Hurricanes again.
The Sixers have already scored a combined total of 357 runs after just two matches this season. They have also yet to be bowled out, losing 13 wickets so far.
Better still, the defending champs have only conceded 191 runs – claiming 18 wickets in the process. That tells you everything you need to know about their superiority.
Even if the Sixers field first, they have more than enough firepower blitz through the Canes’ batting line-up and chase down the required target.
Sydney Sixers vs. Hobart Hurricanes Pick
-
Sydney Sixers to Win1.67
Given what happened on Wednesday, backing the Sixers to seal back-to-back wins over the Hurricanes makes perfect sense.
The Sixers were on a different level to Hobart last time out. Of course, the Canes should improve as the season unfolds. But I can’t see them getting the better of the Sixers on Saturday.
