Having been held to a 2-2 draw by the Mariners, the reigning champions have now drawn each of their last three matches. However, they still find themselves just four points behind first-place Melbourne City – and 14 points ahead of Victory.

The Boys in Blue may have won two of their previous three games, but there is absolutely no denying that Sydney FC is the rightful favorite to claim all three points on Tuesday.

Let’s take a closer look at the teams.

Two weekends ago, Sydney FC threw away a 2-0 advantage to draw 2-2 with Adelaide United. Last time out, the defending champs were forced to come from 2-0 down to secure the same result against Central Coast.

Goals from Marco Urena and Matt Simon put the Mariners on top before Milos Ninkovic pulled one back on the stroke of half-time. Following a second-half onslaught, Trent Buhagiar finally equalized on 83 minutes.

Sure, the Sky Blues have only lost one of their last ten matches. But they have also managed to pick up just four wins in that time.

Of course, Steve Corica will be happy that his players are avoiding defeat at the moment. But if they continue to drop points, it will only become harder to defend their premiership title.

Across their opening 16 games this term, Victory only managed to score 15 goals. In their previous match, they netted five times in a rampant 59-minute spell against Western Sydney.

Remarkably, the Boys in Blue were leading 5-1 with less than 15 minutes remaining. The Wanderers fought back with three late goals, but the home side eventually held on.

Following another Melbourne Derby humiliation, Grant Brebner was relieved of his duties last week, leaving caretaker manager Steve Kean to pick up the pieces. Nobody could have predicted how Kean’s first assignment would pan out.

Looking at the bigger picture, Victory have only managed to win four of their 17 games this term, with 11 defeats coming along the way.

With Tony Popovic set to take charge at the end of the season, the players will be eager to impress their new boss. 21-year-old Ben Folami scored his first two goals for the club last time out, so Sydney will want to keep him quiet.

In my opinion, the price for the home win is far too low to bother with.

Victory’s woes have been well documented this season, but the team showed great spirit against the Wanderers. With that in mind, I can see Kean’s men frustrating Sydney on Tuesday.

On the flip side, the Sky Blues have become the A-League’s draw specialists in recent weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if they dropped more points against a revitalized Victory team.
