Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Rafael Nadal – Quarterfinals, 2021 Australian Open

| February 16, 2021 9:35 am PDT

The 2021 Australian Open will be finished soon, but we still have several days left that should bring us the best matches of the tournament. The quarterfinals feature some exciting clashes, and the one between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Rafael Nadal is an excellent example of that.

The Greek prodigy is looking for his first Grand Slam title, while his opponent could overcome Roger Federer in the all-time rankings for tennis majors won.

The stakes are high, and I expect a lot from both sides, as you can see in this Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Rafael Nadal betting preview. The post includes an analysis of each player, my prediction, and a free betting pick.

Tsitsipas vs. Nadal Odds

Tsitsipas to win +172
Nadal to win -196
Tsitsipas (+3.5) -110
Nadal (-3.5) -110
Over 39.5 +107
Under 39.5 -127

The Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Rafael Nadal odds at the best tennis betting sites paint a clear picture. The Spaniard is the favorite for this match, but his young opponent certainly has a shot at progressing to the last four.

Stefanos Tsitsipas Recent Form

I’m not sure exactly what to make of Tsitsipas’ performance at the Australian Open 2021 so far. The Greek youngster was phenomenal in two of his matches, destroying Gilles Simon and Mikael Ymer in the first and third rounds of the competition.

As you can see from the highlights of the clash against Ymer, Tsitsipas was aggressive and put his opponents under constant pressure.

At the same time, the prodigy was on the brink of elimination against Thanasi Kokinakis in the second round in Melbourne.

I was looking forward to his meeting with Matteo Berrettini to learn more, but the Italian had to withdraw because of an injury.

That means Tsitsipas would be fresh for the clash against Nadal. On the other hand, we’ve seen how certain players lose rhythm in similar situations, and I’m not sure that the walkover in the last 16 is entirely positive.

I expect some inconsistencies by Tsitsipas as a result, and that could be a huge problem against an opponent like Rafael Nadal.

Rafael Nadal Recent Form

There were plenty of doubts regarding Rafa Nadal’s chances in the 2021 Australian Open after he missed the ATP Cup to protect his health. They are all gone after the Spaniard went through the first four matches in the competition without losing a set.

Nadal had a couple of close sets against Cameron Norrie, but he kept his focus to win both. If you add the sublime performance against Fognini in the last round, it looks like Rafa is close to his best.

He has a 6-1 advantage historically against Tsitsipas, which is another good sign. Nadal should enter this clash with plenty of confidence, and it would take something extra special for him to lose.

Tsitsipas vs. Nadal Pick

There’s a good case to be made that Rafa Nadal has been the best player at the Australian Open 2021 so far. It would be hard for anyone to stop him, and I don’t think Stefanos Tsitsipas has matured enough to beat the Spaniard when he’s playing at such a level.

The price of -110 for Rafa to cover the -3.5 games handicap looks like the best pick for this match and I’m going for it.

  • Rafael Nadal (-3.5)
