Steelers vs. Vikings Thursday Night Football DFS Picks – Week 14, 2021

| December 8, 2021 10:50 am PST

The last NFL DFS Showdown slate was a bit of a nightmare. Wind completely altered the Monday Night Football tilt between the Patriots and Bills – so much so that New England threw the ball three times.

Add in a Damien Harris injury, and it was just a mess for most people. For anyone who played both defenses, though, maybe it was a good night in the end.

Whatever the case, you can try to win money again with Thursday Night Football arriving on December 9, 2021. The Pittsburgh Steelers head on the road to battle the Minnesota Vikings, who are extremely banged up.

You can also bet on this game by checking out Anthony Haage’s Steelers vs. Vikings betting preview. For the DFS side of things, read on.

Top TNF Captain Picks for Week 14

  • Justin Jefferson, WR, Vikings ($16.5k)
  • Diontae Johnson, WR, Steelers ($15.3k)
  • Najee Harris, RB, Steelers ($15k)
  • Alexander Mattison, RB, Vikings ($14.7k)

Jefferson is coming off of a god-level performance. He’s a borderline must, given that he’s topped 38+ fantasy points in two of his last three outings.

Oh, and Adam Thielen might not be on hand for this one.

Pittsburgh isn’t some cakewalk matchup for quarterbacks, but volume is a heck of a thing. It’s the same reason you should like Diontae Johnson on the other side, while the running backs in this game should both be in line for 20+ touches if the game stays competitive.

You can talk yourself into the quarterbacks as Captains, as it’s certainly a popular Showdown strategy. I won’t say you can’t use them, but I am not prioritizing them when looking at the other options at our disposal on Thursday Night Football.

Fantasy Football Sleepers for TNF

  • Dede Westbrook, WR, Vikings ($3.3k)
  • Kene Nwangwu, RB, Vikings ($2.4k)
  • Dan Chisena, WR, Vikings ($200)

There could be some nice value in this game. The likely absence of Thielen and almost guaranteed absence of Dalvin Cook opens up some burn for some cheap guys.

If you’re going that route, the most likely beneficiaries figure to be Westbrook, Nwangwu, and Chisena.

Here’s their snap counts from week 13.

  • Westbrook: 32 snaps (42%)
  • Chisena 5 snaps (7%)
  • Nwangwu: 9 snaps (12%)

There’s nothing earth-shattering here. However, Chisena could see the field more, and Westbrook already played enough to be worthy of consideration.

I hate to be one-sided here and ignore the potential Steelers value, but it’s not really worth mentioning. Pittsburgh’s players all have pretty defined roles at this point, so dumpster diving with the Steelers feels like a path to stray from.

My Top Week 14 Thursday Night Football DFS Lineup

  • CAPTAIN: K.J. Osborn, WR, Vikings ($8.4k)
  • FLEX: Justin Jefferson, WR, Vikings ($11k)
  • FLEX: Diontae Johnson, WR, Steelers ($10.2k)
  • FLEX: Najee Harris, RB, Steelers ($10k)
  • FLEX: Alexander Mattison, RB, Vikings ($9.8k)
  • FLEX: Dan Chisena, WR, Vikings ($200)

I am not going to feel obliged to roster the quarterbacks in this game. Neither has an overly enticing matchup, and I value the PPR guys and running backs more.

Osborn is set to have a huge role with Adam Thielen likely out this week, while Chisena should see more field time by default, as well.

Using three Vikings receivers feels wrong, but so does fading Justin Jefferson. I’ll just stack these three, add Mattison to the mix, and run it back with Johnson and Harris.

Chisena probably won’t garner insane ownership, and not many people will put Osborn in the Captain slot. Fewer will fade both Kirk Cousins and Ben Roethlisberger, either.

This lineup gets me most of the top plays, and it should be very contrarian. You can make pivots as needed, and the lone change I’d work toward is maybe trying to roster Cousins.

I like it as it stands, however, and hope my week 14 Thursday Night Football DFS picks help you cash.

Playoff time is here for a lot of season long fantasy football leagues. For a little extra help, check out Nick Sterling’s week 14 fantasy football guide below.
