Sporting Kansas City vs. Los Angeles FC – MLS, June 26, 2021
Sporting Kansas City welcomes Los Angeles FC to Children’s Mercy Park this Saturday, June 26, with the hosts sitting second in the Western Conference – eight points clear of eighth-place LAFC.
Granted, the Wizards have played two games more than Bob Bradley’s side this season. But there is no denying that SKC deserves to be at the top end of the ladder.
Before we get to my prediction and pick for Saturday’s showdown, let’s take a look at the Sporting KC vs. LAFC odds.
The online betting sites are favoring the home side to win this one. But as you can see, the odds gap is relatively tight here. Although SKC has picked up twice as many wins as LAFC this year, the bookies have priced up this matchup cautiously.
The odds suggest that we are set for a tight game in Kansas, but will it play out that way? Below, I analyze both teams before sharing my Sporting KC vs. LAFC prediction and betting pick.
Can Sporting KC Continue to Build?
Peter Vermes’ men head into Saturday’s clash on the back of an impressive 3-1 victory over Colorado, meaning they have only suffered one defeat in their previous six matches.
Daniel Salloi bagged a quick-fire brace inside 38 minutes against the Rapids, with Felipe Hernandez completing the scoring in the second half.
Salloi has arguably been one of Major League Soccer’s standout players in 2021. The Hungarian winger has racked up six goals and four assists in 11 appearances this season, meaning he has played a part in exactly half of his team’s goals.
Unsurprisingly, the Wizards are now the highest scorers in the West. With 20 goals to their name already, LAFC could find it difficult to keep them quiet.
Boasting a record of 6-2-3, Sporting KC will surely be pleased with how their campaign is shaping up.
Has LAFC Turned the Corner?
Thankfully for the Black & Gold, they also head to Children’s Mercy Park on the back of a solid win. Having beaten FC Dallas 2-0, LAFC will fancy their chances of disrupting SKC’s run.
It is no coincidence that Bradley’s men ended a two-game winless run on the same day that Carlos Vela returned to the scoresheet. The Mexican magician found the back of the net after just four minutes last time out, underlining his quality.
After missing three games through injury earlier in the season, Vela has notched one goal and three assists in his last four outings.
LAFC’s record of 3-3-3 tells you everything you need to know about the team’s inconsistent performances this year. But with Vela firing on all cylinders again, I can see the Californians climbing the ladder in the coming weeks.
That said, Bradley’s men have struggled against the strongest teams in the league. Having already lost to LA Galaxy, Seattle, and New York City in 2021, they will need to be at their very best in Kansas.
My Sporting KC vs. LAFC Betting Pick
In my eyes, the price for the draw offers the best value here. We all know that Sporting KC is miles ahead of LAFC at the moment, but the Black & Gold do have a couple of games in hand over the Wizards.
Not only did Bradley’s men claim all three points last weekend, but they also kept a clean sheet in the process. If they produce a similar performance on Saturday, they should be able to snatch a point from SKC.
