Sporting Kansas City vs. Houston Dynamo – MLS, May 29, 2021

| May 28, 2021 11:20 am PDT

Sporting Kansas City welcomes Houston to Children’s Mercy Park on Saturday, May 29, aiming to clinch three consecutive victories.

The Wizards have won four of their opening seven games and currently find themselves second in the Western Conference – two points ahead of fourth-place Houston.

The Dynamo got the better of Vancouver last weekend and has only suffered one defeat in the past five matches. But can Tab Ramos’ men maintain their promising early-season form?

Let’s start by looking at the odds for Saturday’s clash. After that, I share some team analysis before giving my Sporting Kansas City vs. Houston Dynamo prediction and betting pick.

Sporting KC vs. Houston Dynamo Odds

Sporting Kansas City to Win1.66
The Draw3.85
Houston Dynamo to Win5.25

It is no real surprise that 10bet sees Sporting KC as the out-and-out favorite to win this match. After all, Peter Vermes’ men have only lost two of their seven outings this year.

The massive price for the away win is bound to attract plenty of attention here, given that Houston has made an encouraging start to the season. In fact, even the odds for the draw bet look tasty!

Before we make a Sporting KC vs. Houston Dynamo prediction, we need to look closely at the teams.

Will SKC Secure Three Straight Wins?

Of course, the Sounders have been the standout team in the West this season. But I think Vermes’ men deserve huge credit for attempting to keep pace with the early frontrunners.

Seattle already holds a four-point lead at the top. However, it doesn’t look as though second-place SKC will let the Sounders run away from the rest of the conference just yet.

The Wizards made a relatively slow start to the campaign, registering two wins, one draw, and two losses in their opening five matches. But since then, back-to-back victories over Vancouver and San Jose have propelled the club up the standings.

After scoring twice in the 3-0 win over the Whitecaps, Alan Pulido netted again as SKC beat the Earthquakes 3-1 last weekend. The Mexican forward now has four goals and one assist to his name this term.

With the help of Daniel Salloi (three goals, three assists) and Gadi Kinds (two goals, one assist), Vermes’ men are currently the second-highest scorers in the West.

Can Houston Keep the Pace?

The Dynamo finished rock bottom of the Western Conference last year, winning just four of their 23 games in 2020. This time around, they are clearly trying to prove a point.

We may only be seven matches into the season, yet Houston has already picked up three wins. Better still, Ramos’ men have only suffered two defeats so far.

The Texans lost just one of their opening five encounters before facing Colorado a fortnight ago. Unfortunately, they only saw 37% possession at DSG Park and lost 3-1 to the Rapids.

However, it didn’t take them long to return to winning ways. Despite seeing less than 40% of the ball once again, the Dynamo managed to claim a 2-1 victory over Vancouver, with Memo Rodriguez and Maxi Urruti grabbing the goals.

Urruti now has three goals this term, while Rodrigeuz has two goals and one assist under his belt. Can the duo continue to shine? Time will tell.

Betting Pick for Sporting KC vs. Houston

  • Sporting Kansas City to Win

Don’t get me wrong, Ramos’ men have certainly upped their game this year. I’m confident they will improve on their last-place finish in the previous campaign and cause their opponents more problems this season.

That said, I just can’t see Houston ending SKC’s winning streak. The Wizards are flying at the moment, so I’m backing them to claim all three points this weekend.
