Sporting Kansas City vs. Austin FC – MLS, June 12, 2021
With the majority of Major League Soccer teams enjoying a two-week lay-off, we only have one MLS game to bet on this weekend. On Saturday, June 12, Sporting Kansas City welcomes Austin FC to Children’s Mercy Park.
Having picked up five wins from their opening eight matches, the Wizards sit second in the Western Conference.
Meanwhile, Josh Wolff’s men have lost four of their first seven outings and currently find themselves third from bottom in the standings – nine points behind SKC.
In this Sporting KC vs. Austin FC betting preview, I discuss the MLS odds, analyze the teams, and share my prediction and pick for Saturday’s showdown.
Sporting KC vs. Austin FC Odds
With the home-field advantage on their side, Peter Vermes’ men head into Saturday’s clash as the bookies’ clear favorites. After all, the Wizards have made a flying start to the 2021 season.
As expected, Austin is the rank outsider here. The newcomers have yet to settle into their maiden MLS campaign and have already suffered a 2-1 loss to Sporting KC this year.
Previewing the Match
It’s fair to say that Vermes’ men made a shaky start to the season, registering two wins, one draw, and two defeats across their opening five games. But since then, they have been unstoppable.
After beating Vancouver 3-0, SKC secured a 3-1 victory over San Jose before recording a 3-2 win over Houston last time out.
They have bagged 15 goals in eight games and have scored over 1.5 goals on five occasions this term.
With five goals to his name, Alan Pulido is one fire right now. Gadi Kinda and Daniel Salloi have both netted three times this season, while 19-year-old Gianluca Busio has two goals under his belt.
If Vermes’ men can pick up where they left off a fortnight ago, they could easily embarrass Austin.
Los Verdes managed to secure two wins in their first three MLS matches, beating Colorado and Minnesota. However, SKC ended Austin’s hot streak last month – and it’s been all downhill since then.
After losing 2-1 to the Wizards, Wolff’s side suffered defeats to the Galaxy and Nashville – registering an unwanted three-game losing streak.
In fairness to the MLS newcomers, they held Seattle to a goalless draw in their previous outing. Still, there is no hiding from the fact that the Texans have only managed to take one point from their last four matches.
Only two sides in the West have conceded fewer goals than Austin, underling the team’s defensive solidity. But Los Verdes have netted just five goals this season, making them the lowest scorers in the conference.
Wolff’s men can’t expect to move up the standing if they continue to be wasteful in front of goal.
My SCK vs. Austin Betting Pick
Sporting Kansas City to Win1.66
Having assessed both teams, I’m siding with the betting sites and backing Sporting KC to claim all three points this weekend.
Ultimately, the West’s top scorers should make light work of the expansion team. The Wizards have bagged three goals in each of their last three games, so they shouldn’t struggle to overcome low-scoring Austin.
