Spain vs. Greece – World Cup Qualifier, March 25, 2021
Understandably, Spain is the heavy favorite to beat Greece when the two nations clash at Granada’s Los Cármenes on Thursday, March 25.
Luis Enrique’s men hammered Germany 6-0 in their previous game back in November, but they will be well aware of Greece’s recent run. Having lost just one of their last 11 outings, the Greeks will be confident of upsetting the odds on Thursday.
Let’s get right into my Spain vs. Greece betting preview.
Spain vs. Greece Odds
You don’t need me – or the best online sports betting sites – to tell you that Spain (1.20) should win this game. However, I think you’d be foolish to write off Greece (16.00) altogether.
We all know that La Roja boasts a far stronger squad than Greece, but let’s not forget that John van’t Schip’s men head to Granada on an eye-catching run of their own.
Spain vs. Greece Team News and Analysis
When Spain lost 1-0 to Ukraine back in October, things were looking bleak for La Roja. On top of that, Enrique’s men were held to draws by the Netherlands and Switzerland in November, pointing towards a serious decline.
But last time out, Spain totally humiliated Germany – crushing Joachim Low’s side 6-0.
Manchester City forward Ferran Torres netted a hat-trick against the Germans, while Alvaro Morata, Rodri, and Mikel Oyarzabal also got on the scoresheet. Having limited Germany to just two shots, La Roja managed to rack up 23 attempts, ten of which were on target.
Spain was looking like a pretty average team towards the end of 2020. But after thrashing Germany, there is absolutely no denying that Enrique’s team is still among the leading nations in European soccer.
Morata has been in excellent form for Juventus this season, bagging 16 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. The striker also averages a goal every other game for his country, so Greece will undoubtedly be eager to keep him quiet on Thursday.
With just one defeat in their previous 11 matches, the Greeks ended 2020 on a high – and they will obviously be looking to start 2021 similarly.
A run of three wins and three draws saw Greece go unbeaten during last year’s Nations League, with victories coming against Moldova and Kosovo. The team also beat Cyprus 2-1 in a friendly back in November.
Unfortunately, Greece has only managed to secure one win over Spain, despite the nations meeting ten times over the years. On the flip side, La Roja has claimed seven wins in this fixture, with two draws coming along the way.
Anastasios Bakasetas has bagged two goals and two assists in his last five international games. Having also netted 12 goals for Turkish side Trabzonspor this term, Bakasetas is undoubtedly Greece’s dangerous man.
Spain vs. Greece Pick
Spain to Win1.20
Greece claimed several positive results last year and will be hoping to start this year in the same vein. Having said that, anything other than a Spain win would be a massive shock on Thursday.
Henrique’s men completely destroyed Germany last time out. If they can do that to one of the strongest nations in world soccer, just imagine what they could do to Greece!
