Southampton vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers Betting Preview – EPL, February 14, 2021

| February 12, 2021 8:20 am PDT

These two sides only played each other on Thursday, in an FA Cup fifth-round tie at Molineux. Southampton won that one, but there will probably be very different starting elevens on show on Sunday.

Southampton still has plenty of injury problems to contend with but will be desperate to put an end to a long run of defeats.

Southampton vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers Odds

Southampton to Win+145
The Draw+220
Wolverhampton Wanderers to Win+200

BetOnline makes Southampton the favorite to win this fixture, even though the Saints have been moving backward for weeks now. Wolves have hardly fared much better, to be fair. But, with little in the way of success for either side recently, the draw bet might be worth looking at.

Southampton vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Analysis

Conceding three goals to Newcastle before halftime last Saturday didn’t really seem like a good way to get over shipping nine to Manchester United in the previous game, but there was a slight improvement for Southampton. The narrow defeat wasn’t too bad considering the players available.

But it was still a fifth consecutive defeat in the league – and it is only really the FA Cup that is bringing any cheer to the south coast at the moment. But the fact that the Saints beat Wolves in that very competition just this week shouldn’t really prove that the home side will prevail at the weekend.

If anything, the Wolves players that took part in that game will probably be keen to exact some very quick revenge, so Southampton should probably be ready for that. But Wolves has only won one game since the middle of December and looks a shadow of its former self.

It must be more than just the prolonged absence of Raul Jimenez upfront, but Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping that his new striker – Willian Jose – will start scoring the goals that could catapult his side up the table. The Black Country club has one of the worst goals scoring records outside the bottom three, so now would be a good time for the Brazilian to open his account.

Southampton vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers Prediction and Pick

  • The Draw

I have gone for the draw here, more because of my lack of confidence in either of these two sides to win a game at the moment. There are a number of different reasons for Wolves and Southampton’s poor form, but that still doesn’t inspire me to back either. A draw between these two just seems about right.
