Southampton vs. Leicester City – English Premier League, April 30, 2021
There is little chance of Southampton dropping into the bottom three now. Still, Ralph Hasenhuttl will be keen for his players to raise their game again for the visit of Leicester City on Friday.
The Foxes have continued to look determined to finish in the top four once again this season and have an FA Cup final to look forward to in May.
Southampton vs. Leicester City Odds
BetOnline has priced Leicester as the favorites to win this fixture on Friday, but I would have the odds a little further apart.
Southampton looks like a team ready for the end of the season, while Leicester has picked up the pace again in the last few weeks. I wouldn’t have been surprised to see Brendan Rodgers’ side odds to win at St Mary’s.
Southampton vs. Leicester City Preview
Southampton didn’t get to play last weekend due to FA Cup fixtures affecting the EPL match day. It remains to be seen whether Ralph Hasenhuttl spent the time raising up his players for the last few games of a season, as recently the club has been disappointing.
Although there have been some better results in the last few months, Southampton is still struggling – even when top players like Danny Ings are fit to play.
Brendan Rodgers will probably not be too concerned whether Ings plays or not, as his Leicester side has been able to compete with just about everyone in the league this season. Even when it has had to break down stubborn defenses – as was the case with Crystal Palace on Monday – Leicester has generally been able to come out on top.
A big reason for the club’s continued success is the emergence of Kelechi Iheanacho as an alternative up front. Although the Nigeria international plays alongside Jamie Vardy a lot of the time, it is he that has scored the goals in recent weeks. That is great news for Rodgers as he looks to the whole squad to win games for the club. It also means that he has a striker on the top of his game going into a crucial last month of the season.
Southampton vs. Leicester City Betting Pick
Leicester City to Win+110
With a cup final place already assured, the priority for Leicester will still be finishing in the top four. There would seem to be a big enough points gap for that to happen now, but the Foxes need to win a few more games to confirm that mathematically.
Three points from this game at Southampton will go a long way in giving Leicester the best chance of further success.
