Betting Preview With Pick for Slovenia vs. Argentina – Olympic Basketball (July 26, 2021)
Depending on where you are, sometime between late night on July 25th or early the next day, Slovenia and Argentina will be in action. Just be sure to set your alarm, so you don’t miss Luka Doncic put on a show.
For those interested in getting some money down on the game, this Slovenia vs. Argentina betting preview sets the stage for what’s in store.
Slovenia vs. Argentina Odds
Slovenia storms into the Tokyo Games, not just thinking about winning this opening game. Luka and company have their eyes set on winning Group C and making some noise in the knockout stage.
Argentina’s poor showing (0-3) in Vegas could have some concerned, especially the 13-point loss suffered at the hands of Nigeria. If the total is something you are intrigued to attack, know that the Argentines averaged 78.3 points per game during their trip to Sin City.
Over in the Kaunas portion of the Olympic Basketball Qualifying Tournament, Slovenia racked 98 points against Venezuela and 96 more against Lithuania. That came after they dropped a whopping 230 points (115 per/game) versus Poland and Angola, respectively.
By the time the line closes, don’t be surprised if the best Olympic betting sites push this total up to 180.
Assessing the Slovenia Roster
Luka Doncic isn’t just the heart and soul of Slovenia; he’s the most talented player competing in Tokyo (sorry, Kevin Durant fans). Among all of the basketball stars to watch at the Olympics, there’s nobody I want garnering more attention than the Dallas Mavericks PG.
The walking triple-double posted a nifty 31/13/11 line in the QT final to stamp Slovenia’s ticket to the Summer Games, and he’ll have some sincere help when he gets there in the form of Mike Tobey.
Tobey’s 27 points and 12 rebounds propelled Slovenia past Venezuela in the semifinal, and fans in the Big D were quick to chime in.
With Tobey handling the duties in the paint, Vlatko Cancar and Jaka Blazic flank Doncic on the wing and can each do damage in their own right. Zoran Dragic, the younger brother of Goran, rounds out the starting five.
My Assessment of the Argentina Roster
Manu Ginobli turns 44 next week and won’t be flying around the court for Argentina in Tokyo. With that being said, another “40-something” will be guiding the South American country at the upcoming Olympic Games.
Say hello to Luis Scola.
Scola, 41, hasn’t played an NBA game since 2017 with Brooklyn. He’s ten years removed from averaging a career-high 18.3 ppg with the Rockets. Then again, in Argentina’s first friendly with Australia in Las Vegas, Scola scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds, playing a team-high 29 minutes.
Leandro Bolmaro (Minnesota Timberwolves), Gabriel Deck (Oklahoma City Thunder), and Lucas Vildoza (New York Knicks) will all be featured prominently. Denver Nuggets point guard Facundo Campazzo will run the point, and Nicolas Brussino will play big minutes.
Unlike Slovenia who is led by a superstar, it’ll be a collaborative effort from Argentina.
Slovenia vs. Argentina Betting Pick
My Slovenia vs. Argentina prediction is that Luka leads his team to a hard-fought victory and gets them off to a good start in group play. However, my Slovenia vs. Argentina pick is that the Argentines cover the spread.
Six points are simply too large of a cushion given how much experience Argentina has. Plus, did you know that Slovenia is currently ranked 16th in the FIBA rankings?
For some perspective, Argentina’s ranked 4th.
