Sheffield United vs. Leeds United – English Premier League, September 27, 2020

It is a Yorkshire derby on Sunday as Sheffield United welcomes Leeds to Brammall Lane in what is sure to be a fascinating encounter.

Leeds has looked good going forward so far this season, while conceding far too many goals. The Blades have not really started going at all as yet and manager Chris Wilder will be calling for an increase in effort here.

BetOnline has priced this fixture fairly evenly with the draw looking the most interesting at first glance. But Leeds games have come up with a lot of goals this season so far – whereas Sheffield United is yet to get off the mark. The home side will probably need to start scoring if it is to get a point this weekend.

Sheffield United was the stand out performer in the Premier League last season. Liverpool may have won the title by a mile but it was the way that the Blades performed on their return to the English top flight that attracted a lot of attention. But the tactical innovations of last season have not been replicated so far this year – and United is winless in the first two games.

More worrying for Chris Wilder will be the lack of any goals though. A missed penalty against Aston Villa last week kept that unwanted record going – and the red card for John Egan meant that Sheffield United was always at a disadvantage. This team ended last season poorly and it looks like there is a lot of work to be done to get back to the form of last year.

Marcelo Bielsa has ensured that Leeds is one team that everyone wants to watch this season. There were a lot of questions about whether his tactics could be as successful in the Premier League as they were in the Championship – and the two games so far this season suggest that Leeds should be just fine. It could do with conceding fewer goals, but there is enough attacking talent to compensate for that.

After narrowly losing to Liverpool on the opening day of the season, Leeds repeated the 4-3 scoreline in its own favor last weekend to pick up its first top flight points in 16 years. It was noticeable that the Leeds defense couldn’t handle the physicality of Fulham’s Aleksandr Mitrovic though, so Sheffield United might look to prey on that weakness on Sunday.

The way that Leeds plays it would seem that a good bet to go for here would be for both teams to score. But if you are thinking about a match result wager then I think that the draw is the best one to go for.

Sheffield United needs to get its season going and I feel it can exploit weaknesses in the Leeds backline. But there should also be some Leeds goals once again, so a share of the spoils is on the cards.
