Sheffield United vs. Brighton and Hove Albion – English Premier League, April 24, 2021
Sheffield United has finally been relegated, but Brighton boss Graham Potter will be doing everything he can to ensure that his club doesn’t suffer the same fate in the future.
Brighton travels to Brammall Lane seven points from the drop with just six games to go. But now is not the time for complacency.
Sheffield United vs. Brighton Odds
Will the confirmation of Sheffield United’s relegation free the players to perform with abandon and pick up a few wins before the end of the season?
The bookmakers don’t seem to think so. But the pressure is all on Brighton here and my immediate reaction is that the draw bet option stands out.
It had been a long time coming. Sheffield United failed to win any of its opening 17 games of the season, and relegation to the second tier has been on the cards virtually since then. The defeat to Wolves last time out – the fifth in a row – sealed the club’s fate just 24 hours after the chairman had stood down.
The solitary goal scored by Wolves to send Sheffield United down on Saturday also came just seconds after it had had an excellent chance to score itself. Now Paul Heckingbottom’s side must see out the remaining six games of the season attempting to salvage some pride from a sorry campaign.
Brighton’s season, on the other hand, is still very much ongoing. The Seagulls have only lost once in the last five games to give themselves an excellent chance of staying up. But they will know that it cannot afford to take the already relegated Sheffield United for granted.
Back-to-back goalless draws against Everton and Chelsea have slowed the points accumulation but have shown that Brighton has what it takes to battle away at this stage of the season – when its top-flight status is under attack. But Graham Potter will have to do without Ben White for this one after he received a red card against Chelsea – and that could be a big help for the home side.
My Prediction and Betting Pick
It is unwritten soccer law that Sheffield United will probably start playing incredibly attractively now that its relegation has been confirmed. With Brighton desperate for a few more points to stay up, all the pressure is on the visitors here. That might be too much for the Seagulls.
A frustrating draw could be the final outcome.
