Serbia vs. Scotland – Euro 2020 Playoff, November 12
Scotland has not qualified for a major international tournament for 22 years and last made it to the European Championship in 1996. Now it must travel to Belgrade and beat Serbia to progress to next summer’s finals.
Serbia will be confident in its home field advantage though – even without the help of the supporters.
Serbia vs. Scotland Latest Odds
This is the most one-sided playoff tie of the night according to BetOnline – and that is perfectly understandable, considering that Serbia is 15 places above Scotland in the latest FIFA rankings. It would take a huge effort from Scotland to even take this into extra time, so the home win bet is probably the only one to really consider.
Serbia vs. Scotland Match Preview
Serbia has been going through a patchy phase over the last 20 years or so as the dominance of the old Yugoslavia teams has fallen away in the region. World Cups have been reached, but the nation has not made it to a European Championship since 2000 when it was still Serbia and Montenegro.
Results haven’t been particularly good in the Nations League this year either, but the extra time win over Norway in the semi final was a very impressive performance. Nullifying wonder kid Erling Haaland was a victory in itself and now Serbia will expect to see off Scotland without too much trouble.
Steve Clark will be hoping that his Scotland side can pull of an upset in Belgrade – and will look to some very positive results over the last few months as a sign that his squad is finally starting to improve. It took penalties to beat Israel in the semi final but Scotland has beaten the Czech Republic twice and Slovakia once since the start of the new season. But this is the biggest game for Scotland in quite a while.
Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson will be heavily called upon to keep out Serbia and to provide his midfielders and strikers the opportunities it will need to win this game. But there are not many goals in this Scotland squad, so it may need penalties again if it is to be victorious.
Serbia vs. Scotland Betting Pick
Serbia to Win-152
This looks like the easiest of the four playoff games to predict, as Serbia does seem to be stronger in nearly all aspects. There may be a good battle in the middle of the pitch between the two sides but Scotland’s main hope might be for another Serbian implosion. The team has suffered from self-inflicted wounds before and that may give the visitors some hope.
