Seongnam vs. Incheon United Betting Preview – K League 1, September 27, 2020

The great escape attempt is still on as Incheon looks to bounce back from an expected loss to Ulsan last weekend as it travels north to take on Seongnam.

But the Magpies will be no pushovers as its defense has, once again, been one of the best in K League 1. Only the top two have conceded fewer goals this season.

It took far too long, but Incheon has finally woken up this season and now sits just three points behind Suwon at the foot of the table. But Seongnam can be very difficult to beat, making the odds for a home win – or maybe the draw – the most attractive of these choices.

Seongnam hadn’t been in the top half of the division since the fifth round of fixtures, so there was little surprise that it failed to make it before the split – even if anything but back-to-back defeats in the last two games may well have meant it would be playing against the likes of Ulsan and Jeonbuk again now.

Instead, a home loss to Gwangju last weekend saw the Yellows climb the table and leave Seongnam battling against a drop down the table. The cup semi-final loss to Jeonbuk in the week was a disappointment – but not completely unexpected. Now manager Kim Nam-il will hope that his players stay disciplined over the next five games.

Incheon has been rooted to the bottom of the table since the end of May and many pundits had written off any chance of the club remaining in the top flight. But the victories have returned – as well as the goals from Stefan Mugosa – and there is now a real chance that it could surprise everyone and stay in K League 1 for at least another year.

Ulsan could only win 1-0 last weekend – and that result ended a run of three unbeaten games against teams in the bottom six. Now Incheon will only play the poorer clubs in the division there will be a feeling that the impossible may actually become reality.

It seems too much to ask for Incheon United to get straight back to winning games after last week. The confidence at the club is back to a good level after the continual disappointment of earlier in the year, but it is mistaken if it thinks that there are five easy games coming up between now and the end of the season. I do think that the visitors will see more of the ball in this one, but Seongnam’s defense is so strong that I feel the draw bet is the best value.
