Senegal vs. Egypt – Africa Cup of Nations Final, Sunday, February 6, 2022

| February 4, 2022 2:27 am PDT

The Africa Cup of Nations final goes down this Sunday, February 6. Senegal and Egypt will meet in the showpiece, having sealed semi-final wins over Burkina Faso and Cameroon, respectively.

Aside from the obvious Mané vs. Salah storyline, there are various subplots to Sunday’s showpiece. The Pharaohs are competing in their tenth AFCON final and are aiming to clinch their eighth title. On the flip side, the Lions of Teranga are searching for their first AFCON triumph.

If you’re planning to bet on the Africa Cup of Nations final, you have come to the right place. I share my Senegal vs. Egypt prediction below, along with my betting pick for the AFCON final.

Let’s get the ball rolling by checking out the latest odds for the Africa Cup of Nations final.

AFCON Final Odds – Senegal vs. Egypt

Senegal to Win2.05
The Draw2.80
Egypt to Win4.00
Over 2.5 Goals2.00
Under 2.5 Goals1.80

All of the best Africa Cup of Nations betting sites view Senegal (2.05) as the favorite to lift the trophy on Sunday. Although Egypt (4.00) has claimed a record seven AFCON crowns, Carlos Queiroz’s men head into the final as outsiders.

Given the nature of the occasion, the draw bet (2.80) is definitely worth considering. With so much at stake, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Sunday’s clash went all the way to extra-time – and maybe even penalties!

Don’t forget to examine the goal-based wagers, too. The under 2.5 goals market looks like a great option at first glance, considering that both sides will be desperate to avoid defeat.

Senegal vs. Egypt Head-to-Head

  • Egypt Wins: 6
  • Senegal Wins: 4
  • Draws: 2

Senegal and Egypt have clashed on 12 occasions across all competitions. As you can see, the Pharaohs have the upper hand went it comes to the head-to-head record – having won exactly half of the meetings.

The Lions of Teranga have won three of the previous five encounters. However, the teams haven’t faced each other since 2014.

It is worth noting that 11 of the 12 meetings between Senegal and Egypt have produced under 2.5 goals. These nations invariably dish up low-scoring games when they come up against each other.

Senegal Team News and Analysis

Aliou Cissé’s men have yet to taste defeat at AFCON 2021. After coming through the group stage without conceding a single goal, they beat Cape Verde 2-0 in the round of 16 – registering their fifth straight clean sheet in the process.

The Lions of Teranga finally conceded a goal when they came up against Equatorial Guinea in the quarter-finals. However, they scored three goals of their own to book their place in the last four.

In the semi-finals, Senegal claimed another 3-1 victory. Abdou Diallo, Bamba Dieng, and Sadio Mané all scored in the final 20 minutes, with Blati Touré netting a consolation goal for Burkina Faso. Mané has now bagged three goals and two assists in Cameroon.

Thanks to an impressive AFCON campaign, Cissé’s men head into Sunday’s final on a 12-game unbeaten streak in all competitions. They have picked up nine wins and three draws since their last loss, achieving six shutouts along the way.

The Lions of Teranga made it all the way to the previous AFCON final, only to fall to Algeria. Having failed to secure the silverware in 2019, they will be eager to make amends this time around.

Egypt Team News and Analysis

The Pharaohs lost their opening match of the tournament to Nigeria but have avoided defeat since then. Following 1-0 wins over Guinea-Bissau and Sudan, they beat Ivory Coast on penalties to reach the quarter-finals.

Morocco pushed Egypt all the way in the quarter-finals, but Mohamed Salah scored and assisted to hand his team the victory in extra-time. With two goals and one assist to his name, Salah has carried Egypt through the tournament.

On Thursday, the seven-time champions required penalties to dispatch Cameroon in the semi-finals. Both teams failed to find the back of the net after 120 minutes of action, with the hosts missing three of their four spot-kicks.

It is worth noting that all three of Egypt’s knockout games have gone to extra-time. On the flip side, the Lions of Teranga have managed to reach the final by recording three knockout wins inside 90 minutes.

When you look at the bigger picture, the Pharaohs have lost just two of their previous 27 encounters across all competitions inside 90 minutes. With that in mind, they will be confident of securing their eighth AFCON title this weekend.

AFCON Final Prediction – Senegal vs. Egypt

Although Cissé’s men are the bookmakers’ favorites to win on Sunday, I expect Egypt to give them a run for their money.

There is no denying that Senegal has enjoyed a favorable route to the final. By contrast, the Pharaohs have beaten three giants of African soccer – Ivory Coast, Morocco, and Cameroon – to reach the showpiece.

In all honesty, it is difficult to predict exactly which way this game will go. For that reason, I recommend avoiding the moneyline bets and exploring the goal-based markets.

Senegal vs. Egypt – AFCON Final Betting Pick

  • Under 2.5 Goals

If you’re betting on the AFCON final, you can’t ignore the fact that 11 of the 12 meetings between Senegal and Egypt have dished up less than three goals. That’s why the under 2.5 goals market is my betting pick for the AFCON final.

On top of that, the Lions of Teranga have kept five clean sheets in their past seven games, while the Pharaohs have achieved four in their previous five. All the signs point towards a low-scoring encounter on Sunday.
