Seattle Sounders vs. Vancouver Whitecaps Betting Preview – MLS, October 3, 2020
This is undoubtedly the biggest mismatch in MLS this weekend. Seattle currently sits top of the Western Conference, with third-bottom Vancouver nine points behind.
The Sounders claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory over the Caps at the MLS is Back Tournament back in July, and judging by the contrasting form of the two teams since then, I’m expecting a similar scoreline this time around.
Let’s get stuck into my Seattle Sounders vs. Vancouver Whitecaps prediction and betting pick.
Seattle Sounders vs. Vancouver Whitecaps Odds
You will not find a bigger odds gap in America’s top flight this weekend, and perhaps for the rest of the season!
Due to the unpredictable nature of the league, the online betting sites are generally reluctant to price a team as high as 11.00. However, with Seattle flying and Vancouver struggling, the odds for the away win seriously steep here.
But is it really worth betting against the Sounders? Keep reading to find out.
Having clinched the MLS Cup last year, it feels like the Sounders are on a mission to establish themselves as the best team in the country once again. The Washington club currently sits level with Portland at the top of the Western Conference, although the Timbers have played a game more than Seattle.
Not only are Brain Schmetzer’s men the highest scorers in the division (29), but they also boast the best defensive record (12). Indeed, their goal difference (+17) is far superior to any other team in Western Conference.
The Sounders come into this game on the back of a hugely impressive 3-1 win over LA Galaxy, with Cristian Roldan netting a double and Jordan Morris completing the scoring. Morris now has six goals in ten regular-season appearances this year, while top-scorer Raul Ruidiaz has seven.
Needless to say, Vancouver’s leaky defense will not be looking forward to facing Seattle’s free-scoring forward line this weekend. The Whitecaps have conceded 31 goals in 14 games this term. That’s an average of over two goals per game!
The Canadians appeared to be moving in the right direction after picking up three wins in four games earlier in the month. But rare victories over Toronto FC, Montreal Impact, and Real Salt Lake were followed by defeats to LAFC (6-0) and Portland (1-0)
Vancouver seems to be able to take points from the weaker teams in the league. But when it comes to facing the big guns, the Caps invariably crumble. Unfortunately for Marc Dos Santos’ men, Seattle is undoubtedly one of the strongest sides in the country.
Seattle Sounders vs. Vancouver Whitecaps Prediction and Pick
Seattle Sounders to Win1.22
Of course, this price is nothing to write home about. I wanted to make a case for Vancouver getting something from this game. But after taking everything into consideration, I just can’t see the Caps upsetting the odds on Saturday.
The Sounders cruised past Vancouver with ease at the MLS is Back Tournament, and I’m confident they will register another convincing victory this weekend.
