Seattle Sounders vs. LAFC Betting Preview – MLS, August 30, 2020
Seattle and LAFC were both tipped to go deep into the MLS is Back Tournament, but the Los Angeles club knocked out the Sounders in the Round of 16. However, Bob Bradley’s side ended up falling in the quarter-finals, so neither side will view their time in Florida as a success.
With LAFC and Seattle occupying the top two spots in the Western Conference last season, this is set to be a thrilling matchup. The Sounders eventually beat the Black and Gold to the MLS Cup last year, but who will come out on top this time around?

Seattle Sounders vs. LAFC Odds
LAFC finished a whopping 16 points ahead of Seattle in the Western Conference last season. But despite the Sounders clinching the 2019 MLS Cup, the top online soccer betting sites view the Los Angeles club as the favorite to win this game. Having said that, the tight odds suggest there isn’t much to separate the two teams right now.
Let’s take a closer look at both sides and try to foresee the outcome of this heavyweight clash.
The Sounders currently sit two points clear of LAFC, with Brian Schmetzer’s side losing just one of their six Western Conference games this year. Of course, the disappointing Round of 16 exit at the MLS is Back Tournament will still be fresh in the memory. But Seattle returned to regular-season action in style.
The Washington club crushed the Timbers 3-0 last weekend, and let’s not forget that Portland went all the way in Florida. Forward Raul Ruidiaz doubled his tally for the season with a brace last time out, although it could be argued that Seattle has been most impressive at the other end of the pitch this year. Indeed, the Sounders currently boast the second-best defensive record in the division.
Meanwhile, LAFC’s results have been nothing short of erratic this term. Two wins, three draws, and one defeat have seen the Black and Gold pick up nine points from a possible 18, but that record doesn’t tell the whole story. Bradley’s men may have scored 15 goals, but they have also conceded 12.
Considering that Seattle has only conceded four, it’s clear that LAFC must improve defensively. Sure, the team has pretty much got away with their gung-ho approach so far. But if Bradley doesn’t shore up his backline soon, the Los Angeles club will struggle to keep pace with the frontrunners in the Western Conference.
A humiliating El Trafico defeat to rival LA Galaxy last week proved that LAFC is nowhere near their best at the moment.
Prediction and Pick
Seattle Sounders to Win2.63
Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand why the bookies have made LAFC the favorite to win this game. Last season, you would have been foolish to bet against Bradley’s men. But right now, they simply aren’t firing on all cylinders. Seattle has been strong both in defense and attack recently, so I’m expecting the home side to edge this one.
