The third contest of a four-game series between the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium is set for Sunday afternoon, so I’m taking a closer look at this AL West showdown to find the best value.

The Angels won the opener 3-2, overcoming a one-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth. They entered Saturday’s clash as the second-worst team in the American League with an 11-22 record, 1.5 games behind the Mariners, and 6.5 games behind the bottom wild card.

Here’s my best Mariners vs. Angels betting pick for Sunday along with the most important tips and trends.

Mariners vs. Angels Odds

Mariners +1.5 -125
Angels -1.5 +105
Mariners to Win +165
Angels to Win -175
Over 9.5 -110
Under 9.5 -110

This is the clash of two bad teams, but the Angels are still firm favorites to win. The Mariners have the second-worst bullpen in baseball, owning a terrible 5.95 ERA. On the other side, the Angels’ relievers are 17th with a 4.54 ERA.

Hereof, the 9.5-run line seems fair, and I’ll take a closer look at the starting pitchers down below. Anyway, you can always opt with the alternative line, so check out what else is available at the top online sportsbooks.

Mariners vs. Angels Preview

Griffin Canning will take the mound for the Angels after being scratched from the opener Friday night. He pitched 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Oakland on Aug. 22, allowing three earned runs on six hits and a couple of free passes while striking out three.

Canning is 0-3 with a 4.88 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, and 23/12 K/BB ratio in six starts this season. The righty will get his second career start against the Mariners after tossing five innings in a two-run no-decision last year.

Another second-year righty will take the hill on the other side, and Justin Dunn is 2-1 in five starts for the Mariners in 2020. Still, Dunn has a poor 5.57 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and 15/12 K/BB ratio across 21 innings of work.

Justin was impressive last weekend, tallying a win against Texas while pitching six shutout innings. He’s 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA across seven innings in a couple of starts against the Angels this season.

The Mariners score 4.38 runs per game, enough for the 22nd-best in the majors. The Angels are 16th with 4.64 and just below the league average of 4.67 runs scored per game.

Mariners vs. Angels Betting Pick

Dunn has struggled against the Angels’ bats in their previous two encounters. If I add the Mariners’ bullpen and Griffin Canning’s shaky form, betting on the over seems like a logical choice.

Excluding Saturday’s game, the Angels have won four of their seven meetings with the Mariners this term. Both teams desperately need a win, hoping to stay alive in the playoff race, so I would stick with the totals.

  • Over 9.5 runs
