Santa Anita Park Picks – Saturday, February 20, 2021

The Buena Vista Stakes (Grade II) headlines Santa Anita Park’s nine-race schedule for Saturday.
Remember that while I review that stakes race as well as two of the other richest races, you can find Santa Anita Park’s full race card for Saturday — including entries, jockeys, morning line odds, and wagering options — at one of our best online racebooks.
Read on for my Santa Anita Park picks and betting tips for Saturday, February 20, 2021.
Pick for Santa Anita Park Race 6
This is an allowance optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of one mile for a purse of $63,000.
I have to go with the 9/5 morning line favorite for this run — Motown Music, with Juan J. Hernandez in the irons. This four-year-old gelding moneyed three of his four career starts, winning two. That record puts him well ahead of the rest of this five-horse field.
- Win: Motown Music 9/5
Picks for Santa Anita Park Race 7 — Buena Vista Stakes
This is the Buena Vista Stakes, a Grade II stakes race for fillies and mares four years old and upward running a distance of one mile on turf for a purse of $200,000.
My money is on the third-favored (5/1) entry in this race — Warren’s Showtime, with Juan J. Hernandez aboard. This four-year-old filly finished in the money 14 of her 16 career starts, winning six.
Her latest win was the Autumn Miss Stakes (Grade III) at Santa Anita last October; she subsequently started (and moneyed) three Black Type stakes races.
And I have to like the 20/1 longshot Heathers Grey, ridden by Jessica Pyfer, for a value show bet. This five-year-old mare moneyed 11 of her 17 career starts, winning three.
- Win: Warren’s Showtime 5/1
- Show: Heathers Grey 20/1
Picks for Santa Anita Park Race 9
This is an allowance race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of 6-1/2 furlongs on turf for a purse of $63,000.
I’m backing the second-favored (4/1) entry in this turf race — Coast of Roan, with Juan J. Hernandez aboard. This five-year-old gelding moneyed six of his seven career starts, three of which he won.
At 15/1, I Got No Munny, ridden by Edwin A. Maldonado, looks like a viable show wager. This four-year-old gelding won his single career start, breaking his maiden here at Santa Anita in January. With odds like that, you might even consider an across-the-board wager, but I’m only recommending the show ticket.
- Win: Coast of Roan 4/1
- Show: I Got No Munny 15/1
