Sangju Sangmu vs. Suwon Samsung Bluewings – K League 1, September 4, 2020
Both these clubs recorded much-needed victories at the weekend – but they are still at different ends of the table.
Sangju Sangmu has impressed this season while the Bluewings have followed up last season with another disappointing campaign and will still be nervously looking over their shoulders at Incheon at the bottom of the league.
Latest Betting Odds
BetOnline does have Sangju Sangmu as favorite to win this one but the odds are far closer than I would have expected – especially considering that the army team is at home. Suwon has been largely terrible this season and the odds for a Sangju Sangmu victory look very tempting here.
With such a lot of activity around the Sangju Sangmu squad, it was not surprising that results and form had dipped in the last few weeks. But there is still a good level of stability, thanks to manager Kim Tae-wan, and the win against a resurgent Incheon United last weekend was well deserved.
The new batch of military service recruits fitted well into the team and was already 2-0 up before Stefan Mugosa gave the visitors a faint hope just before half time. A Jeong Jae-hee goal just after the break gave the military team its two-goal cushion back again – and the final result was then never really in doubt.
It looks as though Suwon will need to get on the scoresheet first if it is to have any chance of getting anything from Friday night’s fixture, therefore. But that is easier said than done, as the Bluewings have hardly looked prolific at all this season. Just four wins from 18 games sees the club next to bottom.
It looked as if it was going to be another defeat at the weekend when Busan took the lead within the first five minutes. But a spirited comeback – including two goals from Kim Min-woo halfway through the second half gave Suwon some belief. A third just before the 90 minutes were up provided a rare three points – but those kinds of displays have been few and far between this season.
Sangmu vs. Suwon Prediction and Pick
Sangju Sangmu to Win+143
Even with Sangju Sangmu winning just two of its last six games in K League 1 I can’t really understand why it isn’t odds on to beat a poor Suwon side on Friday. With the new players now bedded in, there shouldn’t be as many errors made by the home team and it would take a remarkable showing from the visitors to stop this one going the way of the army side.
