San Jose Earthquakes vs. Vancouver Whitecaps Betting Preview – MLS, October 7, 2020

| October 6, 2020 12:15 pm PDT

If MLS has taught us anything over the past couple of weeks, it’s that you can never write off San Jose. The Quakes looked dead and buried following an eight-game winless run, but back-to-back victories over the two LA teams have lifted the club off the bottom of the Western Conference.

In fact, San Jose is now two points ahead of Vancouver, with the Canadians – who have lost their last three games – heading to Earthquakes Stadium on Wednesday, October 7.

I discuss the bookies’ odds before giving my San Jose Earthquakes vs. Vancouver Whitecaps prediction and betting pick.

San Jose Earthquakes vs. Vancouver Whitecaps Odds

San Jose Earthquakes to Win1.50
The Draw4.55
Vancouver Whitecaps to Win6.05

10bet clearly likes the look of the rejuvenated San Jose team right now, and when you consider the Quakes have beaten the Galaxy and LAFC in their last two outings, it’s difficult to argue with the bookies’ viewpoint.

Having said that, the odds for the draw and away win seem usually high. Sure, San Jose comes into this clash on the back of successive victories. But let’s not forget that Vancouver is only two points behind the California club.

Match Preview

Let’s be honest, it seemed as though San Jose was doomed a couple of weeks ago. Matias Almeyda’s men failed to win any of their eight games after the MLS is Back Tournament, with heavy defeats to LAFC (5-1), Seattle Sounders (7-1), Portland Timbers (6-1), and Colorado Rapids (5-0) crushing the club’s spirit.

However, the Quakes ended their woeful winless streak with a 2-1 victory over LAFC before beating the Galaxy by the same scoreline last weekend.

San Jose’s resilience was tested to the max in each of their previous two outings, as the California club was forced to come from behind on both occasions. Jackson Yueill scored a 93rd-minute winner against LAFC, while Andres Rios’ 82nd-minute penalty saw the Goonies beat the Galaxy.

Almeyda’s men now have an excellent opportunity to secure three straight regular-season wins for the first time since August 2015.

Vancouver picked up three wins in four games last month, beating Toronto FC, Montreal Impact, and Real Salt Lake. But since then, three consecutive defeats have seen the Caps drop to the bottom of the Western Conference – level with LA Galaxy on 15 points.

Worryingly, Marc Dos Santo’s side has only managed to score one goal in their previous three outings. Following a humiliating 6-0 defeat at the hands of LAFC, Vancouver was beaten 1-0 by Portland before finally getting on the scoresheet in a 3-1 loss to Seattle last time out.

The Canadian club will be desperate to stop their slump on Wednesday, although a trip to in-form San Jose will make that a difficult task.

My Prediction and Betting Pick

  • The Draw

Yes, San Jose is on a roll at the moment. But if I was going to back the home side to win this game, I would like the odds to be a lot higher. The teams are enjoying contrasting form right now, but it is important to remember that Vancouver could leapfrog the Quakes with a win on Wednesday.

Looking at the odds, I think the draw is the way to go here. There really is very little to separate these two sides, and the price of 4.55 seems too good to miss.
