San Jose Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy Betting Preview – MLS, September 13, 2020
San Jose suffered a humiliating 7-1 drubbing at the hands of Seattle Sounders on Thursday, but life doesn’t get any easier for the Quakes this weekend. LA Galaxy travels up the California coast on Sunday, September 13, aiming to secure their fifth straight win.
The Los Angeles club got the better of San Jose last month, edging the previous meeting 3-2. And with Matias Almeyda’s side rooted to the foot of the Western Conference, the Galaxy is expected to retain the bragging rights on Sunday.
I discuss the odds before sharing my San Jose Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy prediction and betting pick.
Latest Betting Odds
The betting sites obviously think that San Jose’s home advantage could have a say in the outcome of this clash. If this game was being played in Los Angeles, I’m sure the price for the Galaxy win would be a lot lower.
Considering the contrasting form of these two sides, odds of 2.00 for the away win really stand out here.
We all know that San Jose has not been playing well this year. The team has only managed two victories from nine games in 2020 and has failed to win any of their last four. But I don’t think anyone could have foreseen the Goonies’ 7-1 thrashing to Seattle on Thursday.
San Jose put in a spirited display to earn a draw against Colorado Rapids last week, but Almeyda’s men were completely outclassed by the Sounders. Veteran striker Chris Wondolowski scored a consolation penalty midway through the second half, but the damage had already been done by then.
You probably won’t be surprised to hear that the Quakes now have the worst defensive record in the Western Conference by a significant margin. The bottom club is also the third-lowest scorer in the division.
Believe it or not, LA Galaxy has only scored one more goal than San Jose this season. But a four-game winning streak has propelled the club up the standings. Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side has beaten San Jose and Portland Timbers since the regular season resumed, although doing the double over rival LAFC is undoubtedly their biggest achievement this year.
Sebastian Lletget has been the star of the show lately. The 28-year-old has notched up four goals and two assists in his last four appearances, including three goals against LAFC. Boca Juniors loanee Cristian Pavon has also caught the eye recently, netting in each of the previous three outings.
Needless to say, the Galaxy’s in-form forwards will be licking their lips at the prospect of adding to their tallies against San Jose’s leaky backline.
Prediction and Betting Pick
LA Galaxy to Win2.00
Schelotto’s men have the opportunity to claim five straight victories on Sunday, and I can’t see them passing up the chance. The Galaxy has been unstoppable of late, while San Jose can’t seem to get out of their rut. This game provides the Los Angeles club with the ideal opportunity to keep the pressure on the top teams in the Western Conference.
