San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks Betting – NFL Week 8, 2020
The San Francisco 49ers quickly put a couple of home losses to the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins behind and responded with a pair of wins over the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots. The Niners allowed just 22 points combined in those two wins and improved to a 4-3 record, but are still at the bottom of the NFC West, with a win behind the Seahawks.
The Seattle Seahawks suffered the first defeat of the season as they fell short to the divisional rivals Arizona Cardinals in Week, and now we have only one unbeaten team in the entire NFL – the Pittsburgh Steelers. Nonetheless, the Seahawks are still at the top of the most competitive division this season with a 5-1 record. However, the Cardinals, Rams, and 49ers are right behind, so Seattle must win this one in order to stay at the top. Here is my 49ers vs. Seahawks betting prediction.
Odds for 49ers vs. Seahawks
Niners Allowed Six Points in a Huge Win Over Patriots
The San Francisco 49ers displayed the best defensive performance of the season, but that wasn’t hard against the disappointing New England Patriots. The Niners secured a convincing 33-6 road victory thanks to a great second quarter in which they scored 16 points, while they kept the rivals without a touchdown for the second time this year. They totaled 467 yards opposite New England’s 241, while they had even 17 minutes more of the possession.
Jimmy Garoppolo completed 20 of 25 passes for 277 yards and a couple of interceptions. Jeff Wilson Jr. exploded for the best game of his career as he ended with 112 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. He impressed in Raheem Mostert’s absence, but suffered a high-ankle sprain late in the game and will likely miss the next few weeks. Brandon Aiyuk led all the receivers with 115 yards on six receptions. On the defensive end, Fred Warner, Marcell Harris, Tarvarius Moore, and Dre Greenlaw combined for 25 tackles.
The 49ers are the 16th team in the NFL when it comes to the offense with 25.9 points per game, 21st in passing yards (244.9), 7th in rushing yards (137.7), while they have the 6th defense that allows 19.4 points per contest.
Seahawks Suffered First Defeat of the Season
The Seattle Seahawks are not the only unbeaten team in the NFC anymore as they fell short to the Arizona Cardinals on the road, losing 37-34 in overtime. Although they had a 27-17 win at halftime, the Seahawks couldn’t get the ball moving in the second 30 minutes, as Arizona played their best defense of the season. Zane Gonzalez hit the game-tying field goal as time expired to force overtime, and even though he missed the field goal in OT, he did make the next one and secured a win for the Cards.
Russell Wilson completed 33 of 50 passes for 388 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions, while he also led his team in rushing yards with 84 on six attempts. Carlos Hyde recorded one rushing TD as he chipped in with 68 yards on 15 carries, while Tyler Lockett produced the best game of his career as he had 200 yards and three touchdowns on 15 receptions. Bobby Wagner contributed on defense with 11 tackles (seven solos).
The Seahawks are the best team in the NFL when it comes to the offense with 33.8 points per game, 2nd in passing yards (295.7), 12th in rushing yards (129.5), while they have the 23rd defense that allows 28.7 points per contest.
My Prediction and Betting Pick
San Francisco’s defense is playing very well lately, but it’s going to be hard to contain the best offense in the NFL in this encounter, who has multiple offensive weapons. On the other hand, Seattle’s defense is far from being good this season, and once the famous D is having a lot of problems this year, something the Niners could exploit. Although I expect a lot of running from the visitors, I also expect Jimmy G to bounce back from a touchdown-less game against New England and throw a few TDs here. I am leaning toward the Seahawks in this matchup, but I am going with Over instead.
