San Francisco 49ers vs. New York Jets Betting Preview – NFL, September 20, 2020

Week two has numerous would-be playoff contenders staring 0-2 in the face. One of the many surprises to be included in that conversation is the San Francisco 49ers, who face an arguable must-win situation in New York this week.

The Jets, of course, were expected to be here. Sam Darnold and co. looked bad in week one, easily shaping up as one of the worst teams when you look at the week 1 NFL grades.

The 49ers didn’t look great on offense in week one, but their loss to the Cardinals isn’t quite as shocking as some would lead you to believe.

Losing to the Jets to fall into an 0-2 hole, though, would certainly qualify as a surprise.

New York looked awful in week one. They should count their lucky stars that they’re only 7-point underdogs. I won’t be shocked if that line moves considerably, though, seeing as Le’Veon Bell won’t play this week.

That’s one less weapon for Sam Darnold to work with, and probably plays a hand in this low game total. The Over is probably on the table by default, while it’s hard to convince yourself the Jets make a game of this one.

This game probably isn’t priced appropriately, as the Niners are probably two touchdowns better than New York right now – if not more. I can understand why the top NFL betting sites are hesitant to crown the 49ers in this spot, though.

Not only are the Niners without their top two wide receivers, but it’s possible stud tight end George Kittle won’t be on hand for this one.

Even if that happens, the 49ers are built to smother the Jets defensively, and Raheem Mostert heads a productive rushing attack that should dominate.

Buffalo had their way with this Jets defense, and the 49ers should follow suit. I expect a dominant performance here, as nothing New York brings to the table feels all that threatening.

I just don’t see New York’s realistic path to the upset here. You can’t hammer the Niners to win at -290, but they’re almost certainly not losing this game.

If they played this game 10 times, I think San Francisco might win all 10 times. Adam Gase is a joke of a coach, the Jets have no scary weapons, and the Niners are just better than that.

Everything points to a 49ers win, and with the season hanging in the balance if they fall into an 0-2 hole, I expect this team to come with everything they’ve got. Godspeed, Jets.
