The Seattle Mariners are hosting the San Diego Padres at Petco Park in San Diego because of the dangerous air quality in Seattle caused by wildfire.

The Padres took advantage of the situation and won the opener 6-1, while the closing contest of a three-game series is set for Sunday, September 20, with the first pitch at 4:10 PM ET.

The Mariners were 22-29 ahead of Saturday’s middle contest, sitting three games behind the second-placed Astros in the AL West and four games behind the bottom wild card in the American League.

If Seattle wants to keep its slim playoff chances alive, the victory at Petco Park is a must, so let’s take a closer look at the best Mariners vs. Padres betting pick along with the latest odds and key betting tips.

Padres vs. Mariners Odds

Padres -1.5 -140
Mariners +1.5 +125
Padres to Win -220
Mariners to Win +200
Over 8.5 +100
Under 8.5 -120

The Padres will start Dinelson Lamet, and the 28-year-old righty has been impressive for most of the season. Hereof, don’t be surprised by the moneyline odds, while the totals are set 8.5 runs even though the Padres have one of the best offenses in baseball.

Padres vs. Mariners Preview

San Diego sits at the second spot of the NL West standings and will almost certainly remain there. The Padres were 33-19 on Saturday, four games behind the Dodgers, and seven games ahead of the Giants in the third place.

They have a +84 run differential thanks to their prolific offense. The Padres are tallying 5.62 runs per game (3rd in the majors) while hitting .262 (6th) and slugging .480 (2nd).

On the other side, the Mariners are scoring only 4.24 runs per game (25th) on a .227 batting average (26th) and a .377 slugging percentage (27th).

Seattle will start Justin Dunn on Sunday, and the 24-year-old righty is 3-1 with a 4.11 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over his previous eight starts in 2020. Dunn has allowed only three earned runs on seven hits in his previous 20 innings of work. He’s never met the Padres before.

Dinelson Lamet will take the hill for the Padres, tallying his 11th start in 2020. The righty is 3-1 with a sparkly 2.12 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, and a 79/17 K/BB ratio across 59.1 innings.

Lamet tossed five innings in San Diego’s 10-7 victory over Seattle back in August, and he allowed three earned runs on five hits.

Padres vs. Mariners Betting Pick

The Mariners can lean on Justin Dunn despite his inexperience, but the Padres hit really well against the right-handed pitchers in 2020, going 24-11. On the other side, Dinelson Lamet has fanned 11 in each of his previous two starts and will to extend his excellent streak against the hapless Mariners’ offense.

Seattle has scored just eight runs over its last four outings excluding the middle contest of this series. The Mariners are in a must-win situation, but they will have a mountain to climb when they face off against Lamet.

Therefore, I will go with the Padres to win at -220 even though the odds are not alluring at all. The Padres’ offense has been terrifying thus far, but Justin Dunn could keep them quiet. Still, the Mariners’ bullpen owns the third-worst ERA in baseball (6.11).
