Sacramento Kings vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Game Preview – March 22, 2021
The Kings are looking to reign in Cleveland tonight as they take on the Cavaliers at the Rocket Mortgage Field House. Both teams have little to no hope of making the playoffs, but this is a much win game tonight if they are even to get close.
Much like their conference positions this season, their recent head-to-head record has been close. They have split the last six matches with three wins apiece.
Kings vs. Cavaliers Match Odds
Given the Kings have a better win ratio than the Cavaliers, you have to say the spread looks about right for this one. However, the points total seems a little high and could be the best opportunity to make some money on this game.
The Kings are on a dreadful run of form, and they have looked like the court Hester’s rather than royalty over the past five or six weeks. They have only managed five wins from their previous 19 matches, which has seen them plummet down the standings. However, two of those five wins came in their last three games, so perhaps things are beginning to change for the better. They posted solid back-to-back wins over the Wizards and the Celtics before coming crashing back down to earth in a 24 point loss against Eastern Conference leaders the 76ers. What made that defeat even worse was Philadelphia was missing a couple of key players that night.
Their form on the road has pretty much matched their form at home, so it hasn’t mattered too much where they play their basketball. The King’s record on the road stands at 8-13, which certainly needs to improve. They have only won three of their previous 11 away fixtures, which shows you the sort of form they are in right now.
Here are the latest betting trends for Sacramento:
|ATS||Sacramento is 5-14 in their previous 19 matches.|
|Total||Five of their last six games have gone under the betting total.|
|ATS||All of the previous five meetings between them have been won by the Kings.|
|Total||Only one of their last five matches on the road has failed to go under the points total.|
|ATS||They have enjoyed playing in Cleveland, having won nine of their previous 12 visits.|
|ATS||The Kings have only won three of their last 15 games against teams from the Eastern Conference.|
|SU||Sacramento has won four of their previous six matches against teams based in the Central Division.|
The Kings have a good offense that has shot reasonably well throughout the season add they have a field goal percentage of 47%. This has resulted in them averaging 114 points per game. Although the same cannot be said about their shooting from the free-throw line, which is incredibly poor and only better than one other team in the NBA, and that’s their opponents tonight.
However, their defense continues to let them down night and after night and has been the most significant contributing factor to their abysmal form at present. They can’t seem to get close to closing their opponents down, and it’s beginning to get to the stage where you either have to question their work ethic or the coaches’ tactics. I believe it’s both, as when you look at the number of steals they are making per game, it’s clear they aren’t working hard enough in defense. This, in turn, means the coaching staff isn’t managing their players correctly, as they seem to be getting away with this game after game.
Their defensive rebounding has been a concern. When you’re allowing your opponent’s time and space to shoot and then allowing them easy opportunities to recycle any wayward shots can only spell trouble.
The Kings need to get the ball to Buddy Hield more often as he is having a great season and comes into this game in good form, having posted back-to-back scores of 20 plus in his previous two games. However, Sacramento’s three-point Kings is the center of many trade rumors at present, with the Warriors currently favorites to add him to their roster.
Sacramento will miss trio Metu, Bagley, and Ramsey tonight, all through injury.
The Cavalier’s minimal revival could be back on after picking up two wins from their previous three games. It did appear that their resurgence was well and truly dead, as having won four matches in a row, they went on to lose the next four. However, a couple of wins against the Celtics and the Raptors sandwiched around a defeat to the Spurs has given them something to build on once more.
Their home form has been okay, having won 11 and lost 11 of their 22 games in Cleveland this season. They have won four of the last six, which should give them great confidence against a team lacking plenty.
Here are the latest betting trends for Cleveland:
|ATS||The Cavaliers have lost four of their previous six games.|
|Total||Four of their last five matches have gone over the betting total.|
|ATS||They have only lost one of their previous six games at home.|
|Total||Only one of their last seven matches against teams in the Western Conference has failed to go under the points total.|
|SU||They have lost their previous 14 games against teams from the Pacific Division.|
|SU||Cleveland is 5-13 from their last 18 games played in March.|
Cleveland’s struggles have been the complete opposite of the Kings; they can’t trouble the scoreboard! They are averaging 103 points per game which is the lowest average in the NBA this season. Their shooting has been okay on occasions, but it hasn’t been anywhere near as consistent as it needs to be. But the Cavs don’t have a Buddy Hield to rely upon from deep, and as such, they have the second-worst shooting figures from three-point range in the NBA this season.
However, their offense has been more potent at home and has averaged five more points per game, giving them some real hope tonight.
The key to victory for the Cavs will be their offensive rebounding which has been spectacular this season. Given the King’s defensive rebounding has been so poor, this is an area that Cleveland will look to expose. Therefore, if they cut out the number of turnovers they are making, they could see a lot of the ball tonight.
Their defense has been average, and like their opponents tonight, they have also struggled to cover their opponents, giving up far too many easy baskets.
Like their opposition here, they don’t rebound well defensively; in fact, they’re even worse.
If Cleveland can show the same grit and determination that they did against the Raptors last time out, they will have every chance of picking up the win against the Kings, who have shown very little of this recently.
The Cavaliers continue to miss Drummond, who is on his way out of the franchise. There are also doubts over the fitness of Love, Dellavedova, and Prince.
Kings vs. Cavaliers Betting Pick
The Kings are so bad at the moment you have to fancy whoever they are facing right now. Usually, I wouldn’t touch an offense as bad as Cleveland’s is but given, they are going up against a defense that is giving up so many easy points right now, even they should keep the scoreboard ticking over. I like the heart, fight, and tenacity that the Cavaliers have shown recently, and this is everything I don’t like about the Kings. I also think the Cavs excellent offensive rebounding will ensure they see plenty of the ball tonight, and if they can cut out those silly errors, they could pick up the win tonight.
