Russia vs. Turkey Betting Preview – Nations League, October 11, 2020

Since hosting the World Cup in 2018, Russia has been on an upward trajectory that now sees it qualified for Euro 2020 and top of Group B3 in the early stages of this season’s Nations League.

Turkey has been far more inconsistent but is also going to be participating in next summer’s tournament. A good Nations League campaign would definitely help in giving the squad some confidence.

Russia vs. Turkey Odds

Russia went into its own World Cup in 2018, considered to be one of the weakest hosts in living memory. But the results were better than anyone had imagined, and that form has continued ever since then. Turkey can be a bit hit or miss, so the odds for a home win from Betway here seem fairly generous.

Previewing the Match

Russia enjoyed a huge boost as far as the FIFA rankings go after the World Cup and has managed to receive a favorable seeding in the draws for Euro 2020 and Nations league qualification as a result of that. But this is probably the toughest group in this section, so home victories will be all-important.

Six goals in the opening two games have been an excellent way to start the campaign, and both the win against Serbia and the victory in Hungary showed this Russian side to be impressive against stern opposition. Towering striker Artyom Dzyuba is still the main threat, but the goals can come from anyone in the squad.

Turkey is going through an underachieving phase at the moment, as more and more exciting young players come through to the senior set up without affecting the typically poor run of results. The bright spot was undoubtedly qualifying for Euro 2020 and going unbeaten in two games with France.

This new Nations League campaign has reverted to type, however, with a defeat at home to Hungary coming before a creditable goalless draw with Serbia in Belgrade. But with players such as Merih Demiral, Cengiz Under, and the veteran Burak Yilmaz, much more is expected from this squad.

Russia vs. Turkey Prediction and Betting Pick

  • Russia to Win

I’ve predicting big things from Turkey for quite a while now and have been let down on more than one occasion in the past few years. With Senol Gunes back in charge, there is still time to improve before Euro 2020, but some consistency needs to be found quickly. It may come during this Nations League campaign, but I’m not sure Russia will be beaten in Moscow by this team at the moment.
