Prediction for Royals vs. Guardians – Monday, May 30th, 2022

| May 29, 2022 3:18 pm PDT

There will be plenty of MLB action on Memorial Day, with 24 teams in action. We’ll be examining an AL Central matchup between the Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Guardians.

This will be the first series between the Royals and Guardians since Opening Day. Kansas City won the first two games, but Cleveland bounced back to earn a split. What should we expect for Monday’s matchup?

There hasn’t been much to celebrate for either team in 2022. Let’s see how the odds view Monday night’s matchup.

Honestly, I would’ve expected the top MLB betting sites to give the Cleveland Guardians a bigger advantage. They’re the better team while playing at home. We’ll see if they can prove them wrong.

The betting trends haven’t been kind to the Kansas City Royals. They rank bottom five against the spread, covering in less than 45 percent of their games. Cleveland has been much better, covering in over 50 percent of their games.

It appears the run total will open at 8.5 runs.

That’s a high total, but the Royals and Guardians are among the eight teams that have gone over their run total in more than 50 percent of their games. Are we headed for another high-scoring game?

The Guardians won’t have Franmil Reyes after he went on the IL with a hamstring injury. Reyes has struggled this season, but the Guardians would love to have him in the lineup. Royals outfielder Kyle Isbel recently went on the IL without an injury designation.

Royals vs. Guardians Analysis

There hasn’t been much to celebrate for the Kansas City Royals. Not many people expected them to contend for a playoff spot, but they have the worst record in the AL. We expected a little more from the Royals.

The Cleveland Guardians are a few games under .500, but a plus run differential shows they’re better than their record. We know the Guardians have one of the best players in the MLB with Jose Ramirez.

Cleveland signed Ramirez to a five-year extension ahead of the 2022 season. He has rewarded them with a stellar season.

  • .297 batting average
  • 12 home runs
  • 48 RBIs

Ramirez leads the majors with 48 RBIs, and his 12 home runs rank top-five. It’s no wonder the updated 2022 AL MVP odds have him as a contender.

Last season, Salvador Perez led the MLB with 48 home runs and 121 RBIs. It would’ve been tough to replicate that performance, but we haven’t seen him close to those numbers. Perez is hitting .207 with six home runs and 16 RBIs.

Kansas City ranks bottom five in runs and runs allowed, so you can say it has been a tough season. They can take solace in knowing Bobby Witt Jr. is hitting his stride.

Let’s break down Monday’s pitching matchup.

Jonathan Heasley (Royals) Zach Plesac (Guardians)
ERA 4.73 5.40
WHIP 1.88 1.43
Walks 13 13
Strikeouts 7 28

There aren’t many starting pitchers with more walks than strikeouts. Jonathan Heasley has a lower ERA than Zach Plesac, but his walks give him a much higher WHIP. Plesac is coming off his worst outing, allowing seven runs against the Houston Astros.

It’s hard to find much to like about either team in this matchup. Who will you pick to win Monday’s battle of AL Central teams?

Royals vs. Guardians Same Game Parlay

  • Bobby Witt Jr. to Record an RBI (+115)
  • Andrew Benintendi to Record 2+ Hits (+155)
  • Myles Straw to Record a Run (-165)

Can we turn a profit with my same game parlay on Memorial Day? It’s hard to trust either offense, but this parlay gives you (+761) odds.

Like most rookies, Bobby Witt Jr. struggled to start his career. He failed to hit a home run and only had five RBIs in April. Witt has looked much better in May, hitting six home runs and recording 19 RBIs.

Witt struggled yesterday, going 0-4 with two strikeouts. However, that ended a five-game stretch with eight RBIs. Witt also had eight straight road games with an RBI ahead of Sunday’s game. He should get back on track against the Cleveland Guardians.

There might not be much to like with the Royals’ offense, but Andrew Benintendi is top 10 in the MLB with a .327 batting average. Check out his numbers in his last ten games.

  • 16-39 (.410 batting average)
  • 4 doubles
  • 4 RBIs
  • 3 runs

There isn’t much power with his game, but Benintendi is a great contact hitter. He has five 2+ hit games in that stretch, including back-to-back two-hit games.

We haven’t seen much from Myles Straw in May. He’s hitting .183 with zero home runs and three RBIs. So, how does he make my same game parlay? He can score runs.

Straw’s ability to get on base gives him a good chance to score runs. He has nine runs in his last nine games. That stretch includes three games with two runs. There’s no doubt it pays to hit in front of Jose Ramirez.

Royals vs. Guardians Pick

My Pick: Guardians to Win (-150)Bet on the Guardians at BetOnline

The Cleveland Guardians don’t have a great record, but they’re much better than the Kansas City Royals. I’m more than happy to take the Guardians at this price.

Zach Plesac has struggled in 2022, but Cleveland’s bullpen has been one of the best in the majors. Meanwhile, Kansas City has the second-worst ERA and worst WHIP. What will happen if Jonathan Heasley has a bad start?
