Royal Antwerp vs. Tottenham Hotspur – Europa League, October 29, 2020

| October 28, 2020 3:14 am PDT

Belgian club Royal Antwerp hosts EPL side Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, October 29, with both sides aiming to maintain their 100% record in this season’s Europa League.

Antwerp beat Ludogorets 2-1 in Bulgaria on Matchday 1, while Tottenham claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Austrian outfit LASK. But who will come out on top when the teams clash at Bosuilstadion on Thursday?

After assessing the bookies’ odds, I give my Royal Antwerp vs. Tottenham Hotspur prediction and betting pick.

Royal Antwerp vs. Spurs Odds

Royal Antwerp to Win 5.60
The Draw 4.40
Tottenham Hotspur to Win 1.50

It is difficult to argue with the odds for this game. Yes, Royal Antwerp (5.60) has the home advantage. But there is no denying that Tottenham Hotspur (1.50) is expected to pick up all three points on Thursday.

Let’s take a closer look at the teams.

Royal Antwerp vs. Spurs Preview

Royal Antwerp heads into Thursday’s clash on an outstanding seven-game unbeaten streak in all competitions. Not only have the Belgians won each of their previous five outings, but they have also scored at least two goals in each of their last seven.

Ivan Leko’s side extended their winning streak to four games with an impressive comeback victory over Ludogorets last week. Second-half goals from Pieter Gerkens and Lior Refaelov saw Antwerp come from behind to go joint-top in Group J, kicking off their Europa League campaign on a high.

Antwerp secured a fifth straight victory by edging Beerschot 3-2 on Sunday, opening up a one-point lead at the top of the Belgian Pro League in the process.

Leko’s men have enjoyed a string of positive results recently, but they now face their toughest test so far. Antwerp hasn’t played a team of Tottenham’s ability this season, so the hosts are likely to struggle to deal with the visitors.

Even if manager Jose Mourinho refuses to class his side as EPL title contenders this term, Spurs find themselves just two points behind frontrunners Everton and Liverpool. Of course, it is still early days. But a ten-game unbeaten streak in all competitions speaks for itself.

Following big victories over Southampton (5-2) and Manchester United (6-1), Mourinho’s men are the top scorers in England’s top division. The team still has some defensive issues, but Tottenham continues to find ways to outscore their opponents.

Spurs ground out a hard-fought win against Burnley at the weekend. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min combined for the ninth time in the Premier League this season, with the England captain assisting the South Korean for the only goal of the game.

Tottenham’s new-found strength in depth means that Mourinho is likely to rotate his team this week. Still, Spurs shouldn’t struggle to win on Thursday, even with a weakened starting XI.

Royal Antwerp vs. Spurs Prediction and Pick

  • Tottenham Hotspur to Win

Antwerp is on a roll at the moment, but unfortunately for the Belgians, so is Tottenham. I’m expecting Leko’s side to give Spurs a run for their money at Bosuilstadion, although I’m confident that the EPL outfit will claim all three points.

If Mourinho does chose to rest Kane and Son, Gareth Bale will almost certainly start in attack. Carlos Vinicius also notched up two assists on Matchday 1, proving that Tottenham can cope without their star men.
