Rose Namajunas vs. Zhang Weili 2 Betting Preview (UFC 268)

| November 1, 2021 10:48 am PDT

A strawweight title clash for the ages goes down this Saturday, November 6, at UFC 268.

Rose Namajunas returns to Madison Square Garden for the first time since shocking Joanna Jedrzejczyk to win the title at UFC 217. Having lost that strap only to win it back against Zhang Weili in April, the pressure is on “Thug” to make it another night to remember.

I’ll be providing predictions for Namajunas vs. Zhang 2 in this betting preview. I’ll also be looking at the latest odds for UFC 268 where these two are concerned.

If you’re betting on the Namajunas vs. Zhang rematch, make sure to check out my breakdown of the fight once I’ve covered all of the above.

Let’s get to it.

Namajunas vs. Zhang 2 – Who Wins?

  • Winner: Weili Zhang by KO/TKO (1)

Well, well, well.

I’m taking “Magnum” in my Namajunas vs. Zhang rematch predictions.

I don’t see this being among the most controversial picks for UFC 268 by any means. The former champion was knocked out in style by Namajunas in the first bout, but I don’t think she’ll be caught out the same way on Saturday night.

More on that later.

Here’s a look at the odds for Namajunas vs. Zhang 2, courtesy of the top betting apps for MMA

Moneyline Odds for Namajunas vs. Zhang 2

Rose Namjunas to Win-105
Weili Zhang to Win-115

The UFC 268 betting odds for the Namajunas vs. Zhang rematch are as tight as a camel’s butt in a sandstorm.

A $105 bet on Namajunas returns a profit of $100, while you would need to stake $115 for the same returns if betting Zhang.

Namajunas’ odds have fallen from -125 just a couple of weeks ago. That means there is now a chance to make a little extra money on Thug if she comes through with the victory.

Zhang was a +105 underdog in October, but UFC bettors fancy her chances of reclaiming the title and setting up a trilogy fight further down the line.

Top Bets for the Namajunas vs. Zhang Rematch

  • Zhang to Win -115
  • Fight Under 2.5 Rounds +150
  • Zhang to Win by KO/TKO +300

If you’re gambling on this fight, betting tips for Namajunas vs. Zhang 2 begin with backing the challenger to win.

In other words, there is enough value in the Chinese superstar on the moneyline. Of course, the odds won’t be for everyone, but I would recommend taking this wager first and foremost.

If you’re undecided on your UFC 268 bets for Namajunas vs. Zhang, go under 2.5 rounds. I don’t see this being a long fight whatsoever and believe the styles of both ladies will make for another early finish.

Zhang to win by KO/TKO is seriously good at +300. With ten KO/TKO wins in her career to date, she has proven herself to be one of the only female fighters on the roster that has consistent stopping power.

Zhang Weili’s Pro Record
21 Wins 10 KO/TKO 7 Submission 4 Decision
2 Losses 1 KO/TKO 1 Decision 0 Decision

Why Zhang Beats Namajunas in the Rematch

Rose Namjunas is one of the best technicians we’ve seen in the UFC.

But there are times when she does appear to struggle with pressure. Of course, it would be unfair to label her as mentally weak, which is not what I am implying here whatsoever.

But if an opponent can get in her face, they can turn the tide of the fight.

Rose works so well from the outside, with exceptional distance management and a high fight IQ integral to her success.

The head kick KO she landed on Weili in the first match was about as sublime as you will see. It was certainly not happenstance that her leg connected flush on her opponent’s jaw like that, but I don’t see Weili making the same mistake.

Zhang was mentally off coming into this bout, and I think it showed early on.

She was flustered and allowed Namajunas’ pre-fight “better dead than red” trash talk to affect her, as well as the crowd. This time, she’ll be adequately prepared.

It’s not going to be easy for Zhang to find her way into range. But she will get inside at some point, and once she does, we’ll likely see a much different fight.

For Zhang to beat Rose, she must cut the cage off and take away her speed. Giving her space to operate is just asking for trouble, so we’ll likely see her pushing through Namajunas’ jabs and straights to land small combinations that keep her on the back foot.

The aim for Zhang is to get her up against the fence and tee off with all she has in an effort to stop the champion.

It’s a risky game plan, for sure. If she blows herself out early and Rose can survive, she will be in trouble. But I would not fancy Namjunas’ chances of surviving too many blitzes from the contender on the inside.

My predictions for Namajunas vs. Zhang 2 are a win by knockout for the challenger. I also believe the stoppage is likely to come in the first round.

Final Words for Betting on Namajunas vs. Zhang 2

In summary, take the moneyline odds here.

Regardless of who you are betting on, the line is close enough to dismiss any crazy bets. With that said, if you want bigger odds, Zhang by KO/TKO is great value.
