Rob Font vs. Cody Garbrandt – UFC, May 22, 2021

If you are looking for the UFC betting odds for this weekend’s action, the logical place to get started is with the main event of the evening.
The big one goes down at the UFC APEX this Saturday, May 22 between Rob Font and Cody Garbrandt in a crucial clash in the promotion’s bantamweight division. You can find my predictions and betting pick for Font vs. Garbrandt below, as well as a few tips for wagering on the fight.
The odds for Font vs. Garbrandt slightly favor Font, despite his opponent’s status as the former king of the division. I’ll be explaining where the value is in what I see as a pick’em fight, as well as providing you with the best wagers to look at.
It all starts with who wins between Rob Font and Cody Garbrandt. So let’s get that out of the way first, before I explain the rest.
Font or Garbrandt – Who Wins?
- Cody Garbrandt by Decision
My first prediction for Font vs. Garbrandt is that the fight goes to the scorecards.
As you can see, I believe it will be “No Love” that wins the fight. But it promises to be a very close scrap between the #3 and #4 ranked bantamweight in Font and Garbrandt, respectively.
I’ll explain more about why I labored over my pick for Font vs. Garbrandt after we cover the odds and best bets for the fight.
Let’s move on.
Latest Odds for Font vs. Garbrandt
Font’s odds to beat Garbrandt are -120 with Bovada.
The 33-year-old is on a three-fight streak that saw him earn wins over Sergio Pettis and Ricky Simon on the cards before knocking out Marlon Moraes in Round 1 back in December.
The Massachusetts fighter is 7-3 in the UFC and 18-4 overall. The bookies believe he should have just enough to edge out the former champ this Saturday.
Garbrandt’s odds to beat Font are +100.
Having taken his record to 11-0 in 2017 with a legendary win over Dominick Cruz that also earned him the UFC bantamweight title, Garbrandt embarked on a three-fight skid that led to a drastic fall from grace.
Back-to-back TKO losses against T.J. Dillashaw preceded a violent knockout loss to Pedro Munhoz. However, his last performance — a stunning KO victory over Rafael Assuncao — has given him the confidence to put himself back on the map.
Could a gamble on Garbrandt be the way to go this weekend?
Best Bets for Font vs. Garbrandt
If you’re stuck on your main event predictions for UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Garbrandt, you won’t be the only one.
Some see this fight ending in a KO win for Font, but I don’t. As I mentioned above, my pick for Garbrandt vs. Font is the former champ, and his odds to win are solid. Take No Love at +100 for decent value.
However, if you are still in two minds about whether to bet on Font’s odds to beat Garbrandt or vice versa, there is an option to take in. That is, of course, the fight to end over 3.5 rounds.
Font, despite knocking out Moraes in his last bout, isn’t known for having devastating stopping power. Just 8 of his 18 wins have come by way of KO/TKO. Sure, Garbrandt’s chin is suspect, with all of his three losses coming by way of stoppages.
But if you play devil’s advocate to test this theory, you might point out that two of those losses came to a proven PED cheater in T.J. Dillashaw. The other was less to do with Garbrandt’s wonky chin, and more down to the fact that he was swinging for the fences in desperation and got caught.
Font will be more concerned with his opponent’s power, while Garbrandt will be playing it much safer this time.
Why Garbrandt Beats Font
Rob Font is a dangerous fighter that is as well-rounded as they come.
Font’s odds to beat Garbrandt reflect this, as well as his higher ranking in the official UFC bantamweight standings. But stylistically, there is a lot for his opponent to work with here. And while Font’s chin is solid (he has never been knocked out), Garbrandt’s boxing is arguably the best in the division.
Font is an excellent technical striker with a 71.5″ reach. Garbrandt’s, by comparison, is 66″. This gives him the upper hand in many respects, but Garbrandt under Mark Henry is a dangerous prospect.
This is a 50/50 fight between two very talented men. But I genuinely feel that Cody is being slept on here. He is a former champion with a four-year advantage in age. He has the better resume as well as the better coaching setup, and will, in my opinion, outbox Font on the inside and take the win on the cards.
At these odds, you could go either way with your betting pick for Font vs. Garbrandt. But all things considered, I’m taking No Love to get the job done.
Could it be another one of these? Perhaps not. But it wouldn’t shock me to see him become the first man to sleep Font.
