Red Bull Salzburg vs. Bayern Munich – Champions League, November 3, 2020

Bayern Munich will be aiming to secure their ninth straight victory in all competitions when they visit Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League on Tuesday, November 3.

Unsurprisingly, the German giant sits top of Group A after winning their opening two games. Salzburg is bottom of the group having picked up just one point from a possible six so far.

Can the Austrian side upset the odds on Tuesday? I share my Red Bull Salzburg vs. Bayern Munich prediction and pick below.

In all honesty, I’m surprised the price for the home win (7.50) isn’t a bit higher here. Bayern Munich (1.34) is the obvious favorite to win, but I was expecting the odds gap to be larger.

Let’s take a closer look at the teams.

Red Bull Salzburg heads into Tuesday’s clash on the back of a crushing 5-0 victory over WSG Wattens. A hat-trick from Noah Okafor and a Sekou Koita double handed Jesse Marsch’s men their sixth straight domestic victory, leaving the team two points clear at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga with a massive +20 goal difference.

However, the Red Bulls have failed to make their mark on the European stage this term. After drawing 2-2 with Lokomotiv Moscow on Matchday 1, Salzburg was beaten 3-2 by Atletico Madrid last week.

Just like last season, Marsch’s men have given a decent account of themselves in the Champions League. But despite dominating their domestic division, they seem to be struggling to compete with Europe’s top teams.

On the other hand, it looks like Bayern Munich will be competing on all fronts once again this season. Not only do the Bavarians sit at the summit of the Bundesliga after six games, but they also find themselves three points clear at the top of Group A.

Hansi Flick’s men thrashed Atletico 4-0 on Matchday 1, yet they were made to work for the win over Lokomotiv last week. Anton Miranchuk cancelled out Leon Goretzka’s first-half strike, but an outstanding Joshua Kimmich volley handed Bayern all three points late on.

The German giant was also pushed by Koln on Saturday, with Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry handing their side a narrow 2-1 victory. Still, even when the Bavarians are not at their best, they invariably find a way to beat their opponents.

Having racked up ten goals and three assists in just five Bundesliga appearances this season, Robert Lewandowski will surely be eager to open his Champions League account this week.

Bayern Munich is on a remarkable 13-game winning streak in the Champions League, and although Salzburg won’t be an easy opponent, I can’t see the Red Bulls stopping the Bavarians run on Tuesday.

There are likely to be plenty of goals at Red Bull Arena, but I’m expecting Bayern to come out on top and extend their lead at the summit of Group A.
