Red Bull Salzburg vs. Atletico Madrid Odds
The top-rated online betting sites view Atletico Madrid (2.20) as the favorite to win this one, and it’s difficult to argue with their viewpoint. Still, I was expecting the odds gap to be a lot bigger for this matchup.
RB Salzburg (3.10) has proved to be a tricky opponent in the Champions League this term, but Atleti is one of Europe’s in-form teams right now.
Red Bull Salzburg vs. Atletico Madrid Preview
The Red Bulls made a decent start to their 2020/21 Champions League campaign, drawing with Lokomotiv Moscow before narrowly missing out to Atletico. However, two heavy defeats against Bayern Munich jeopardized the club’s UCL ambitions.
But having beaten Lokomotiv last week, Salzburg is still in with a chance of reaching the Round of 16. A Mergim Berisha double, along with a goal from Karim Adeyemi, handed Marsch’s men a 3-1 victory in Russia on Matchday 5.
Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for the Red Bulls this term. Indeed, they have netted ten times in the UCL – an average of two goals per game. But with 15 goals conceded this season, only one team – Ferencvaros – has a poorer defensive record in the competition.
Salzburg suffered a shock defeat to relegation-strugglers Flyeralarm Admira on Saturday, meaning the Austrian champions have now lost two of their last three Bundesliga matches. It’s fair to say that the Red Bulls aren’t heading into Matchday 6 on a promising run.
By contrast, Atletico is on a major high. A 2-0 victory over Valladolid saw Los Colchoneros rise to the summit of the La Liga table on Saturday, with eight wins and two draws from ten league outings this season.
Not only are Diego Simeone’s men the second-highest scorers in Spain’s top-flight, they also boast the best defensive record in the division. Remarkably, Atleti has conceded just two goals in ten domestic games this term. Needless to say, that is an unbelievable achievement!
Goalkeeper Jan Oblak has kept nine clean sheets in 15 appearances in all competitions, while forwards Joao Felix (eight goals, three assists) and Marcos Llorente (five goals, three assists) have kept things ticking over at the other end of the pitch.
Simeone’s men have only managed to win one of their five Champions League matches in 2020/21, although they have only lost one, too. Three straight draws – including last week’s tie with Bayern Munich – have put Los Colchoneros in pole position to qualify for the next round.
Red Bull Salzburg vs. Atletico Madrid Prediction and Betting Pick
Atletico Madrid to Win2.20
In my opinion, this feels like an excellent opportunity to more than double your money. Atletico is on a seemingly unstoppable run right now, and I can’t see Salzburg putting an end to that.
We all know that the Red Bulls have a host of exciting young attacking players, but Atletico’s formidable defensive record is difficult to ignore. I’m backing the Spanish side here.
