Real Salt Lake vs. Minnesota United – MLS, May 29, 2021

| May 29, 2021 3:39 am PDT

This matchup brings together two teams moving in opposite directions.

Real Salt Lake kicked off the campaign with back-to-back wins but has since registered two draws and a loss. On the flip side, Minnesota suffered four straight defeats at the beginning of the season but heads into Week 7 on the back of consecutive victories.

Eighth-place RSL welcomes second-bottom Minnesota to Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, May 29, with two points between the sides in the Western Conference.

In this Real Salt Lake vs. Minnesota United betting preview, I discuss the MLS odds, analyze the teams, and share my prediction and pick for Saturday’s clash.

The online sportsbooks believe that Real Salt Lake has the upper hand here. Of course, RSL beat Minnesota 2-1 last month. But the two sides have experienced contrasting fortunes since then.

With the Loons enjoyed a two-game winning streak, the high price for the away win is certainly worth considering. But before we settle on an RSL vs. Minnesota prediction, let’s take a closer look at the teams.

Can RSL Continue to Climb?

It’s safe to say that Freddy Juarez’s men stunned Major League Soccer when they kicked off the season with two straight victories. I mean, they only managed to win five of their 22 matches last term.

RSL’s hot streak was brought to an end by San Jose earlier in the month, as the Quakes sealed a 2-1 win in Utah.

But back-to-back draws with Nashville and Dallas mean that Juarez’s men have lost just one of their five outings this year.

Following a goalless encounter with Nashville, RSL came from behind to rescue a late 2-2 draw in Texas last weekend. Unsurprisingly, Rubio Rubin and Damir Kreilach scored the goals for the visitors.

Rubin is averaging over a goal involvement per game this season, having bagged four goals and two assists in five appearances. Meanwhile, Kreilach has already chalked up two goals and three assists.

Can the deadly duo exploit Minnesota’s shaky defense on Saturday?

Will Minnesota Notch Three Straight Wins?

The Loons conceded a whopping ten goals across their opening four matches this year, registering four defeats along the way. The heavy losses included a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of the Sounders and a 3-2 defeat to Colorado.

But since then, Adrian Heath’s side has sealed successive 1-0 wins over Vancouver and Dallas. All of a sudden, things are looking a lot brighter in Minnesota.

Not only have the Loons won each of their last two matches, but they have also kept two clean sheets in the process.

Having conceded a ton of goals at the beginning of the campaign, they now boast consecutive shutouts.

It goes without saying that Heath’s men will need to start scoring more goals if they want to move up the standings. Indeed, they have netted just five goals in six games this term, with Robin Lod (two goals, two assists) doing the bulk of the work.

Still, there is no denying that Minnesota is finally heading in the right direction after a disastrous start to the season.

My RSL vs. Minnesota Betting Pick

  • The Draw

The really isn’t much to separate these two sides at the moment. RSL started the season strongly before tailing off slightly, while Minnesota made a terrible start before turning things around.

Having considered everything, the draw is my RSL vs. Minnesota prediction. I expect the teams to produce a closely fought encounter on Saturday, so the points are likely to be shared.
