Real Madrid vs. Inter Milan – Champions League, November 3, 2020
Two of Europe’s giants clash on Tuesday, November 3, for what is arguably the standout Champions League tie of Matchday 3.
Real Madrid hosts Inter Milan in Group B, although both sides find themselves at the wrong end of the group following a disappointing start to the campaign.
After assessing the bookies’ odds, I share my prediction and betting pick for Real Madrid vs. Inter Milan.
Real Madrid vs. Inter Milan Odds
A first glance, the high odds for the draw (4.00) stand out to me. The top online betting sites view Real Madrid (1.90) as the favorite to win on Tuesday, but with Los Blancos failing to make their mark on the European stage this term, Inter Milan (3.70) will fancy their chances of getting something from this game.
Real Madrid vs. Inter Milan Preview
It looked as though Real Madrid was heading for back-to-back defeats in the Champions League last week. Following a 3-2 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk on Matchday 1, Zinedine Zidane’s men found themselves 2-0 down against Borussia Monchengladbach, but two goals in the dying moments saw them rescue a draw from the jaws of defeat.
However, on home soil, it has been a very different story for Real. The defending La Liga champions have only lost one of their opening seven domestic games this season, with five victories coming along the way.
Los Blancos crushed Huesca 4-1 last time out, thanks in large part to a Karim Benzema brace. The French striker has notched up four goals and three assists in nine appearances in all competitions this term, so Inter will be looking to keep him quiet.
Last-place Real could move all the way to the top of Group B with a win on Tuesday, although that is easier said than done.
A Romelu Lukaku double earned Inter a 2-2 draw with Gladbach on Matchday 1, but the Italian side was held to a disappointing goalless draw by Shakhtar last week. Despite dominating large spells of the game, the Nerazzurri failed to find a way through.
Antonio Conte’s men were also frustrated by Parma on Saturday. Inter recorded 69% possession and bombarded their opponent with 25 shots (nine on target), but the team needed a stoppage-time equalizer from Ivan Perisic to rescue a point.
The Italians find themselves sixth in Serie A – five points behind frontrunners and rivals AC Milan. Inter has only lost one of their opening six league games this term, but two draws have prevented the club from challenging at the top of the table.
Still, Lukaku already has seven goals in seven appearances this season, making Inter a serious threat in attack.
Real Madrid vs. Inter Milan Pick
Both teams will be desperate to avoid defeat on Tuesday, so I can see this game ending in a draw. Neither side will want to become cut adrift at the bottom of Group B, so this is likely to be a tense and cagey encounter.
Real and Inter have both been dangerous going forward this term, but their defenses have not been at their best. At the end of the day, the hugely attractive price for the draw is difficult to ignore here.
