RB Leipzig vs. PSG – Champions League, November 4, 2020
Less than three months after PSG beat RB Leipzig 3-0 in last season’s Champions League semi-finals, the two sides go head-to-head again in Europe’s premier club competition.
The Red Bulls welcome the Parisians to Saxony on Wednesday, November 4, with the teams locked on three points in Group H.
Can either side close the gap on frontrunner Manchester United? You can find my prediction and betting pick for RB Leipzig vs. PSG below.
RB Leipzig vs. PSG Odds
PSG (2.80) may have won the previous encounter between these two teams, but the leading online sportsbooks seems to think that RB Leipzig (2.45) has the upper hand this time around.
Both sides have claimed three points from their opening two UCL games this season, so I think the draw (3.60) is also worth considering.
RB Leipzig vs. PSG Preview
Following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir on Matchday 1, many believed that RB Leipzig would beat Manchester United last week. However, Julian Nagelsmann’s side crumbled and ended up losing 5-0 at Old Trafford.
To make matters worse, the Red Bulls also suffered their first domestic defeat of 2020/21 at the weekend. Despite racking up 15 shots on Saturday, Leipzig was beaten 1-0 by Borussia Monchengladbach.
Still, it is important to remember that the German side was unbeaten in their opening seven games this term. Nagelsmann’s men appear to have hit a rough patch, but you’d be foolish to write them off.
Manchester City loanee Angelino bagged a brace against Basaksehir, while Yussuf Poulsen (three goals, two assists) and Emil Forsberg (two goals, two assists) have tried their best to fill the void left by Timo Werner in the summer.
With Dayot Upamecano also continuing to establish himself as one of the best young center-backs in European soccer, Leipzig should not be taking lightly.
PSG has been hit with the unfortunate news that Kylian Mbappe will miss Wednesday’s clash due to a hamstring injury. The starlet joins fellow forwards Mauro Icardi and Neymar on the sidelines, leaving Thomas Tuchel without any of his first-choice attacking options.
On a brighter note, Moise Kean has hit the ground running since arriving from Everton. The 20-year-old netted a double against Basaksehir last week, just days after scoring twice in a 4-0 victory over Dijon.
The Parisians secured their seventh straight Ligue 1 victory on Saturday, beating Nantes 3-0. It is also worth pointing out that PSG recorded their sixth clean sheet in seven domestic games last time out. Needless to say, that is a hugely impressive record!
However, a weakened PSG team is likely struggle against Leipzig’s dynamic approach. Tuchel’s men often struggle to deal with the step-up from Ligue 1 to the Champions League, and it will be even harder this week without their injured stars.
RB Leipzig vs. PSG Pick
RB Leipzig to Win2.45
If Mbappe and Neymar were fit, this would have been a much more difficult decision for me to make. But it is no secret that PSG is far weaker without their star duo.
Yes, Leipzig was humiliated by Man Utd last week. But I’m backing the German side to bounce back and return to winning ways on Wednesday.
