Rangers vs. Lech Poznan Betting Preview – Europa League, October 29, 2020

The Gers are arguably one of Europe’s in-form teams right now. Steven Gerrard’s men have won 14 of their 16 games in all competitions this season, and they welcome Lech Poznan to Ibrox on Thursday, October 29.

A 4-2 defeat to Benfica last week means the Polish side heads into this clash on a three-game winless run. On the flip side, Rangers sit joint-top of Group D following a 2-0 victory over Standard Liege on Matchday 1.

In all honesty, I expected the odds gap to be smaller for this matchup. It is no secret that Rangers (1.45) are on a roll at the moment, but Lech Poznan (6.00) has plenty of European experience.

The sportsbooks are heavily backing the Scottish side to win this one. Still, I think the draw (4.90) is worth considering.

Rangers’ 16-game unbeaten streak has seen the Glasgow club open up a six-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with Old Firm rivals Celtic trailing behind. A victory over Celtic two weekends ago has put Gerrard’s men in the domestic driver’s seat, but the manager will also be eager for his team to compete on the European stage.

The Scottish side beat Standard Liege relatively comfortably last week. James Tavernier gave Rangers the lead from the penalty spot midway through the first half, before Kemar Roofe capped of the win with a spectacular halfway-line strike.

Remarkably, Tavernier has racked up nine goals and six assists in 16 appearances in all competitions this term. But the right-back must also be given credit for his efforts at the other end of the pitch. Indeed, Rangers have only conceded three goals in 12 league games this season.

It’s safe to say that Lech Poznan’s Europa League campaign did not get off to the best of starts. Despite a Mikael Ishak brace, the Polish side was thrashed 4-2 by Benfica, with Darwin Nunez netting a hat-trick for the Portuguese giant.

Lech is also in real danger of falling out of the Ekstraklasa title race. Dariusz Zuraw’s men finished just three points off top spot last season, but they currently find themselves in the bottom half of the table having won just two of their opening seven games.

It feels like Ishak is Lech’s only hope. The Swedish striker has bagged nine goals in 13 appearances since joining from Nuremburg in the summer, but he is in desperate need of some help from his team-mates.

I’m confident that Rangers will extend their seemingly unstoppable unbeaten streak by picking up another win on Thursday. Gerrard’s men have seriously upped their game, and I can see them challenging both in Scotland and in Europe this season.

With Benfica also in Group D, Rangers will know they must beat Lech in order to give themselves the best possible chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.
