PSG vs. RB Leipzig – Champions League, November 24, 2020

| November 23, 2020 9:07 am PDT

When these two sides met in Germany three weeks ago, RB Leipzig came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over PSG. This time around, the Parisians welcome the Red Bulls to France, aiming to seek revenge.

Leipzig currently leads PSG by three points in Group H, while Manchester United is also ahead of Thomas Tuchel’s men. The French side needs a positive result on Tuesday, with the two frontrunners threatening to run away with the group.

I assess the bookies’ odds before giving my PSG vs. RB Leipzig Champions League prediction and betting pick.

PSG vs. RB Leipzig Odds

PSG to Win 1.57
The Draw 4.60
RB Leipzig to Win 5.25

PSG (1.57) is the overwhelming favorite to win on Tuesday, but I don’t think this matchup will be as one sided as the odds are suggesting.

Given that Leipzig (5.25) beat PSG in their previous meeting, the high prices for the away win and the draw (4.60) stand out to me.

PSG vs. RB Leipzig Preview

You won’t be shocked to hear that PSG is leading the way in the France’s top flight. However, you probably will be surprised to hear that there are currently four teams within four points of the defending Ligue 1 champion.

Tuchel’s men suffered their third domestic defeat in 11 games last time out, losing 3-2 to Monaco, despite a first-half Kylian Mbappe double giving PSG a two-goal lead. The Parisians may be at the summit of the Ligue 1 table for now, yet they haven’t had it all their own way this term.

The team’s inconsistencies have also spilled over onto the European stage, with PSG only managing to win one of their three Champions League games this season. Defeats to Man Utd and Leipzig came either side of a 2-0 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir, leaving the French club third in Group H.

There have been continuous question marks over PSG’s European credentials in recent years. Sure, they reached the Champions League final last term. But the early stages of the current campaign have already proved that Tuchel’s side is not on the same level as the continent’s elite clubs.

I think Julian Nagelsmann will be pleased with the start that his team has made to the 2020/21 Champions League. Of course, the 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Man Utd on Matchday 2 is an obvious low point. But that was a very uncharacteristic performance.

The Red Bulls showed what they are capable of by securing a comeback victory over PSG on Matchday 3. They went behind early on to an Angel Di Maria strike, yet goals either side of half-time from Christopher Nkunku and Emil Forsberg handed Leipzig all three points.

A win for the Germans on Tuesday would see them open up a six-point advantage over PSG, and with just two group games to play after that, Leipzig would already have one foot in the Round of 16.

Having only lost one of their eight Bundesliga outings this season (five wins, two draws), it looks like Nagelsmann’s men are going to enjoy another successful campaign.

PSG vs. RB Leipzig Pick

  • RB Leipzig to Win

In my eyes, the price for the away win is too high to ignore here. The Red Bulls showed great determination to come from behind and beat PSG earlier in the month, and I’m expecting Leipzig to produce a similar performance this time around.

PSG has made a stuttering start to 2020/21, so there really is no point in bothering with the low odds for the home win on Tuesday.
