PSG vs. Manchester City – Champions League, April 28, 2021

Tuesday’s UCL semi-final between Real Madrid and Chelsea promises to be an intriguing clash. But let’s face it – PSG vs. Manchester City is the one that everybody is talking about.

For the Parisians, this is a chance to make amends for last season’s final loss and go one better in 2021. On the other hand, Pep Guardiola is aiming to fulfill Man City’s quest for Champions League glory.

The two European heavyweights go head-to-head on Wednesday, April 28. In this PSG vs. Man City betting preview, I assess the odds, look at both sides, and share my prediction and pick for the first leg.

PSG vs. Manchester City Odds

PSG to Win3.10
The Draw3.75
Manchester City to Win2.15

It’s not very often that PSG heads into a game as the underdog. However, Man City’s undeniable strength means the French champion is viewed as the outsider here – despite being the home team.

All the top-rated online sportsbooks favor the English giant to win the first leg, although the odds for the away win aren’t low by any means.

Can PSG Gain a First-Leg Advantage?

It’s fair to say that Mauricio Pochettino has taken PSG to another level since replacing Thomas Tuchel in January.

Of course, the Argentine inherited a star-studded squad, so he was expected to hit the ground running. But he still had to come in and get results – and that’s exactly what he’s done.

Not only has Pochettino taken the club back to the Ligue 1 summit, but be he has also worked wonders in the Champions League.

After becoming the only manager to beat Barcelona at Camp Nou in 2021, he became the first manager to beat Bayern Munich in the UCL since 2019.

The relentless form of Kylian Mbappe has been the cornerstone of the Pochettino era so far. The French phenom netted six goals across four games against Barca and Bayern and now sits on 37 goals and ten assists this season.

Having bagged four braces in his last seven Ligue 1 appearances, Mbappe is undoubtedly PSG’s biggest threat. But can he exploit one of the toughest backlines in European soccer?

Will Man City Edge Closer to UCL Glory?

Man City heads into Wednesday’s clash on the back of clinching a fourth straight EFL Cup trophy. The club’s recent domination of that competition has been nothing short of remarkable, although Guardiola’s men must now turn their attention to a bigger prize.

Following a comfortable 4-0 aggregate victory over Borussia Monchengladbach, the Cityzens were pushed all the way by Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals. Still, they managed to win both legs 2-1, with Phil Foden scoring in back-to-back matches.

City’s UCL record currently stands at W9-D1-L0.

Having won 19 of their past 21 league games, Guardiola’s men are now just two wins away from sealing the EPL title. The double is almost in the bag, but clinching the treble is the main objective.

Man City is the bookmakers’ favorite to lift the Champions League trophy this season. If the players perform to the best of their ability, they should be too strong for their rivals.

My PSG vs. Man City Pick and Prediction

  • Manchester City to Win

PSG has already knocked Barcelona and Bayern Munich out of the Champions League this year, but the visit of Man City poses a completely different test altogether.

I expect Pochettino’s men to attack City, although that is likely to work against them. I’m backing the English side’s free-flowing forward line to get the better of the Parisian’s questionable defense in the first leg.
