PSG vs. Angers Betting Preview – Ligue 1, October 2, 2020
I don’t think Angers would have expected to be level with PSG after five games this season. But as we head into Matchday 6 of the 2020/21 Ligue 1 campaign, the two sides are locked of nine points.
For the reigning champions, it’s been a disappointing start. But Angers will be more than happy with how things have gone so far this term. Can Stephane Moulin’s side maintain their promising start? Or will PSG make it four wins in a row on Friday?
I assess the bookies’ odds before sharing my PSG vs. Angers prediction and betting pick.
Latest Betting Odds
After losing their opening two games, PSG (1.11) appears to be back on track, and the bookies’ odds certainly reflect that. The home side is the clear favorite with the top online betting sites to win this game, but that is nothing new.
Given that Angers has already beaten Dijon, Reims, and Brest this season, the lofty odds for the draw (8.50) and the away win (16.00) are bound to tempt some of the riskier bettors out there.
Let’s take a closer look at both teams and decide whether or not it is actually worth betting against PSG.
Following a shaky start, the Parisians finally looked like their old selves last weekend as they brushed aside Reims 2-0. Mauro Icardi, Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria, and Neymar all featured together in the same starting XI for the very first time this season, with the former netting a double.
Of course, PSG is renowned for their attacking power. But last weekend’s clean sheet will have perhaps pleased manager Thomas Tuchel more than the two goals. Tuchel was able to name the same backline for the second consecutive game, and the team has now kept three straight shutouts.
With the defeats to Lens and Marseille now firmly in the past, the defending champions will be eager to start closing the gap on early frontrunner Rennes. PSG’s injury list seems to be shortening by the day, so it won’t be long before the capital club is back to full strength again.
While PSG’s start to the season has followed some sort of pattern, Angers’ results have been erratic. The Black and White’s opening two victories were both followed up by defeats, although they come into this game on the back of a spirited comeback win over Brest.
Each of Angers’ three victories this term have been secured by a single-goal margin, but their defeats have not been close games at all. After losing 2-0 to Bordeaux on Matchday 2, Le SCO was thrashed 4-1 by Montpellier on Matchday 4.
It seems as though Angers is more than capable of competing the division’s lesser teams. But when it comes to facing tougher opponents, Moulin’s men crumble. Unfortunately for Angers, PSG is as tough as it gets.
Prediction and Pick
PSG to Win1.11
Don’t get me wrong, betting against PSG on Friday could prove to be extremely profitable. The Parisians’ below-par start to the campaign has been well documented, but it feels like they have found their feet.
Angers has put in a number of decent performances so far this term, but the Black and Whites are likely to struggle to compete with Tuchel’s star-studded side.
